Sorry to pass on the disappointing news that this is now sold ... Good news is that it should be at the Rally in June and the owner might even come along for the ride. I will update later this week.

John, we're now looking at w/e of 9/10 July for DFR4. Would you be available?

Yes, that should be OK. I was just pointing out that Jem said 'Rally in June' in his post about the 600ex, whereas I thought that DFR4 was now in July.

Hmmmm. July 9 - 10? Maybe I could squeeze in a quick trip to the UK.

See DFR4 thread for details. Birmingham (BHX) International Airport is the nearest one with regular Transatlantic flights.

Where would you be travelling from, if you made it over? My wife has a trade show in NYC that she'll be attending that week and I was planning on tagging along. Now that the consensus for the DFR4 is that weekend of the 9th/10th, maybe I can talk her into flying out of JFK. Flights are cheaper from there. She's from Barcelona and I can sweeten the pot by proposing zipping over there for a few days afterwards. I'll run it up the flagpole tonight and see what happens. The logistics of it all may be a bit much but we do have plenty of time to figure it all out. Might be a good excuse to invest in an airline bike bag while I'm at it.

If the overnight camping isn't part of your (or your wife's) plan, there is indoor accomodation next to the camp site at Mousely House farm cottages with equestrian facilities available at the farm or, for a bit more luxury, at Wroxhall Abbey hotel just around the corner. Good luck floating the idea, look forward to seeing you in July.

I was under the impression it was during the week. Oh well. Maybe next year.

My Raleigh Super Tourer, I never ride it in the winter, it has a few minor spots up on the chrome fork where the elements got to it. One summer I ran it fixed gear but it is back to full derailleur now. People usually don't have much advice on chrome, either get it replated or the usual remedies, try some chrome coloured spray paint which really doesn't do too much. I just try to watch it that no rust ever forms. I don't plan to ever let it go. Posting it because it is close to the same colour. John, is your Mowbray that color? It's an okay colour, I am fairly indifferent on this matter.

The MM 600ex appears to be the same colour as mine, which was described as Linden Green by Viscount. It was the only colour available for the 600ex. Linden Green is still available and Foss on this forum had his 600ex repainted in this colour. But it came up darker than the old green. I bought a bottle of touch up paint in LG but it looks too dark and I've never tried it.

Many thanks for these John. In anticipation of picking this bike up I went to your Flickr set and downloaded them the other day.
I have been thinking about what bits I need and what work I might do on this.I have an Arabesque 600 RD in my bits box that will be 'correct' for this, then I will treat myself to a Uniglide 'gold' chain I think. I realise the freewheel isn't original but I need the few extra teeth as I am not a great hill climbing man at the best of times, so I won't change that just yet. (23 just sounds like hard going with a 39 up front)
I have no plans at all to respray. It looks pretty good to begin with and the cost would not be worth the 'risk' in my view.
In fact, a good clean and grease is all that I am planning other than the chain and RD. I see the spec sheet pic shows black cable outers- not sure if I am going to get that picky about it though.
Not sure what tyres to put on yet. And I need to source some gum hoods. I could be out on it next weekend!!!

Hey Jem,
Further to your email... I picked up my uniglide chain still in the original bag off ebay. I think it came for Portugal. I road the eroica on the tiny original rear sprocket where we met. It was hell on the legs! Good thinking changing it up. I did Ride 100 with more teeth although there were only 2 hills ha ha! Still I glided passed the modern crew going up Box and leith hill, it was a good laugh. My 600 ex came complete. I just had to change out a wheel rim due to damage. Everything else was there minus the chain of course.
As I mentioned I have just started on my Green 600 similar at this one. Its older maybe though has viscount cast into the rear stabilizers by the seat and has I suspect a front fork that could have been change out for a death fork at some point. The paint is a different shade and the drop outs are Tange where as the rears are sun tour. Does this make sense to any one? The other odd thing is is came with no shimano bits on. It was mostly Campagnolo Gran sport. Very odd. I'm wondering if I should sell the campag and get hold of some 1st generation shimano 600. The version before Arabesque. Opinions?
Also I have made graphics for almost all the stickers now if anyone needs the artwork or could possibly recommend a good place to get them printed out. I need all of them as the frame have been striped of all but the head badge!
Cheers Chris

I personally love the Arabesque 600 group set and would think that you have a good chance of trading the Campag. for good condition Shimano 600 1st gen components without any trouble , if that is what you go for? By the way, the stickers you had on your water bottle looked amazing - when the go up on Redbubble again, will you give us a shout so that we can stock up? As for printing out decals- I will find the place that Bustaste had good reports about (it's on a thread here somewhere , but I always forget the name/place - it's somewhere in-between A38/ M1 just before Nottingham. Thanks for these Chris! Superb. I am going to get the stickers made up and logo up a plain white water bottle. Here's the link for the printers that Bustaste recommends www.bike-stickers.com/contact.htm
