Wow! A very nice Viscount. Mixte frames in Aerospace steel are quite rare. This one, as the seller says, is the mixte version of the Aerospace 400, which (as far as I have been able to detect) differed only from contemporary Aerospace 600ex and 600ax bikes in the level of equipment. I like the engraved seat stay ends and my original Viscount was a 400. That had Shimano 600 rear mech, Dura Ace front mech and Weinmann brakes and brake levers. Seller is rather gushing and the price is rather high. I like his line 'genuinely serious buyer, I may be able to deliver ...'. So, if you're thinking of buying, don't be frivolous. If it's the frame design that appeals, Viscount mixtes made of lower spec steels do come up from time to time and would be cheaper.

I see "nice" Mixtes sell expensively. Retro-Styled kinds and that is selling for about that much.
I'm a bit partial to that lavender colour.

Sorry Steve, I don't have anything like that for sale. Nice bike. While I would be the first one to choke on my cornflakes even looking at the price, there is a reasonable logic from the seller, that it is way better than a modern Halfords bike for double the price. I can't argue with that. Just as a pricing reference point, I got my wife the Sebring for something like £40 a couple of years ago. Camera Roll-341 by Sooper 8, on Flickr

If I had one, I most likely would not sell it. Mixte frames made of good steel are few and far between; it is even hard to find one with decent drop outs. When I built a mixte for my wife I had to settle for a Univega made with a triple butted cromo down tube and seat tube; the rest of it is made of who knows what. It at least has nice drop outs.
If it is what you want I say go for it; I doubt you will soon see another. If you do, it may be higher than 339 pounds (that's about 500 bucks in money I understand) which is not (at least in the US market) too bad price for such a rare item. Offer him 250 in pound notes, and be sure to wave the cash in front of him.
Cheers Jim

Original Viscount leather saddle on the Viscount Mixte; they should have put a better photo in. I have seen one of those before. Sueded? There are no rivets I see.

I've got a Viscount Tulsa Mixte, low grade equipment, made in Taiwan frame.A fairly heavy bike which could be lightened with better wheels and alloy equipment. If you're thinking of Raleigh, the bike to go for is the Lady Clubman. Reynolds 531 main tubes and a nice bike. Had a couple in the joint fleet over the years. Good luck in your search. Cheers, Pete.

This Eddy Merckx mixte on eBay might be worth watching over the next couple of days. Eddy Merckx mixte by RMT@261, on Flickr Look like someone has 'updated' the handlebars and brake levers to flats, and moved the gear shifters up from the down tube to the handlebars, but nothing that couldn't be returned to standard. Or this Raleigh might scrub up OK if you can get it for a song.

Do keep us clued in. It's sort of an exciting endeavour and really, I doubt if one could go wrong. Below; I saved these pictures from about 8 weeks ago, it impressed me how this seller surely got this bike powder coated or some sort of paint job. It's not the original colour surely. Motobecanes like this are often just hi-ten steel but sound like they ride nicely. For the record, this turquoise coloured Mixte was from the San Francisco Berkly area, I saw browsing CL) Perhaps the verdict is still out on this, the bike is so very bright. Like day-glo, maybe it is too bright! This gal in New England has the lovely bike blog; well, I read her Mixte articles probably a few years ago before her blog got popular enough to have paid ads on it. lovelybike.blogspot.com/2011/03/myths-about-mixte.html This and other articles. But the Mixte in post #1 is very nice. Attachments:

If it's still for sale it's a bargain.

I contacted seller. And although she has left the country, her friend can do the deal. In London.

I'd be happy to collect it if some not nearby wants to buy.

I do have a Raleigh lady clubman which I got a few years ago. Paintwork is excellent. I think it is a 19" frame. Message me if you are interested. I got it as a pair gents and lady's bicycle. It has a camper rear and Weismann centre pull brakes. I do have photograph somewhere I can dig out. Currently broken down for storage but happy to rebuild and let it go for what I paid for it.
Regards,
Moggers
