Despite a typo in the listing, this is a Viscount Gran Sport on eBay UK, and quite a nice late model one as well. In Kenilworth, near Coventry, handy for midlanders. I like the colour-coordinated cable outers and top tube clips, although they're probably not original. Also the nominatively co-ordinated saddle, although again not the one it came with. Front wheel is low-flange, rear is high-flange, although the seller says that the rear is the non-original one.

Mmh, quite nice. Good colours (which I don't think Ive seen before) , late model, but too big for me.
Would this be Potters Bar factory? (if it was Coventry..who knows, might have been a story behind it)

Lets see, 75 pounds is about 110 bucks; a nice bike and it could be a good buy if it sells for anywhere close to the starting bid. Do you guys get taxed on such things?
Cheers Jim

Very similar to the one I bought last October, right down to the blue cable outers, but with bonus rack and mudguards. I'm similarly curious to know whether it's Potters Bar built. The hubs on mine are also low flange, Shimano branded with lubrication ports & cover clips. I chuckled at the sellers' description of the bike's suitability for 'Eroiaca' events - my autocorrect usually adds a 't' instead of an 'a'! If anyone here bids successfully, Kenilworth is close to me and I could help with transportation to Leeds, London, Milton Keynes or thereabouts if you'd rather not have it posted. Jim, no, we don't have any additional 'sales' taxes to pay on purchases in GB.

Cheers Jim Before you get the idea that the UK is a low-tax paradise, there is a UK (actually European Union) sales tax called Value Added Tax (VAT). This applies (currently generally at the rate of 20% in the UK) to any sale of most things (notable UK exceptions being food, unless eaten in a restaurant, children's clothing and books). However, if you are a small business or private seller you do not have to charge VAT - but of course you have to pay it on most things you buy. Larger businesses must register for VAT and charge it on the goods and services they provide. However, they can then claim back the VAT they paid on goods & services they bought in. Complicated? I should think so. And (sore point) goods we buy from countries outside the EU, such as the US, are liable for VAT when imported into the UK. So even second hand bicycle components may be snagged by customs and 20% (plus a charge) slapped on them. The eBay Global scheme makes you pay this up-front, but you do then escape the extra customs charge (£8 last time I fell foul of this). However, there is a low-value exemption of about £18 (I think) - currently around $28. This is not very generous when you consider that customs generally turn a blind eye to much greater values of purchases made on holidays.

Anyone on here go for this? It went for £84 (£9 over the starting price) to a bid placed with about 10 seconds left to go. Similar last-gasp bidding to the Pro that Dracco and I were interested in the other week. Is there a mystery buyer in the Viscount market with some cunning bidding software?

Can't beat it. No sense in tipping your hand before you need to.
