What do people think are the best (I.e. the best value) brake cable outers (and also inners). I'd like to standardise across my Viscounts & Lamberts. The manufacturer seems to have favoured black, except for the Tony Doyle bikes, but I think white is good for some colours of frame. I don't see any value in going for period authentic parts here, when modern cables look much the same and are likely to work better. But what do you think?

There's nowt wrong with brake or gear cables from Wilkinsons.Cheaper than most places, and open 7 days per week. I bought a few cables last year from a French supermarket, good quality, and cheap! All outers are black of course. Cheers, Pete.

My Sport came with blue cables (all red frame). I bought some NOS Reg Harris (?) cables and outers but they were a bit stretchy and really a bit dangerous. Modern cable is definitely better. EXCEPT good ol' NOS Dura Ace. They are noticeably thicker than modern brake cable, and even after 30+ years work really well. And the outers are the same colour blue as the original, although much thicker gauge to take the thicker cable inside.
On unimportant rebuilds I use standard Shimano cable and Jagwire outers.
