I am going to chat for a second so pardon me, I was looking at a Craig's list bike that intrigued me, it's being sold cheap, I am not going to get it but it has chromalite tubing and it is for a bike brand I doubt many have heard of "Ascente", now that I looked around, I'm thinking this is a Lotus made bike. I did once have a Lotus, it may have been too small and before I knew much about bikes. This bike must of been your typical entry level bike.
But back to the Ascente: minneapolis.craigslist.org/wsh/bik/5284788667.html (last time I posted Craig's it did not come through, I'm going to post some of these unique photos. It's probably being sold for too cheap at $65 imho.
Bottle cage braze ons or bosses I guess is the proper term, not bad. Yes, and psychedelic colors.
There it is, "Chromalite, State of the art technology Designed by (unreadable)" and a phone number in London but undoubtedly, a London Connecticut or somewhere in Canada or anywhere there is such a town.
Those tires actually look swift enough to be worth a bit at least, I'd say.
Likely a Shimano drive train, anyway, I am pondering, "Chromalite"? I've never heard of that but then, that takes me to a website that says Chromalite was used by Lotus and some of the paint jobs at the dedicated website below are not totally dissimilar, so I am of the opinion, this is probably a bit of a Lotus bicycle company product. Nice too that it has actually 2 holes in the fender area, eyelets I mean. The Lotus bikes sound like they have some similar components, Skylark Shimano derailleur and so on.

but now, I find a Maruishi with chromalite, hmmn, so this enhances the puzzle some. calgary.canadianlisted.com/bicycles/road-race-bike-maruishi-sprint-425_2718915.html This, the Maruishi, is obviously, a high quality bike though.
Kind of cool website, though I'm not into Lotus that much, their own t-shirts as well: www.vintagelotusbicycles.com/Retro_LOTUS_T-Shirts.php , I know there is a GitaneUSA website, so it is interesting to see people track this stuff down and make a website.
For the record, I believe there may have been 2 different Lotus bike making companies, one in Japan, the more famous one but another with the same name in the USA who I believe made high-quality bikes.
One sees a lot of different bikes, I once even saw one time someone selling a bike by that Japanese company that actually had "oval" tubes instead of rounded tubes.
