I did my part, both ups and downs. didn't vote twice, however. Frank Viscount biscuits now in the number 15 slot, having overtaken Penguins. Jammie Dodgers are now within our sights! (But I guess this is getting a bit weird?)

Good to know we're doing our bit for Irish pride, but a bit shabby of that commentator to drag Wolfe Tone into a discussion about biscuits, I feel. No. 14 now, behind Hobnobs.

Gotcha, Jaffa Cakes! (See here for the HMRC official verdict on the cake vs. biscuit taxation debate.) Now we need to push past the Penguins for a top 15 place just behind Jammie Dodgers. I'd suggest that we try to form a Breakaway, but that might be one biscuit-related reference too many. I do quite like Jaffa cakes, though I couldn't eat a whole packet at once. Also feeling a bit guilty at having passed the delicious Tunnock's Tea Cakes after drafting their chocolate, mallow and biscuit loveliness for so long.
One commentator is viewing the biscuit poll as an indicator of the state of the health of Ireland's economy. Perhaps we can gift them a boost to national pride by putting Viscount biscuits in there with the Custard Creams and Digestives. There has to be a DFR4 sponsorship deal here somewhere. Very good Rob - I like the Breakaway pun! But I'm starting to fear the knock on the door from the Electoral Commission ...this is major league rigging. Now at #13 and only 12 votes behind the giant of transatlantic biscuits, the Oreo.

Jem, I think we might need a new category of 'Way, Way Off Topic'!
Was it Stella who was frightened of getting lost en-route without her Garmin?
Great fun though - democracy in action? Who would have thought that Hobnobs would be left staring at our rear (27") tyres?
Cusqueno - I'm not seeing the comments you've picked up. I hope we're not starting anything unpleasant here - it's only about biscuits!

I don't understand. Someone posted and included s link to a 'commentator' on the sliced pan site who said that the lack of Irish biscuits in the top ten illustrated the moral decline of Ireland, or something like that. It was suggested that Wolfe Tone (a famous Irish patriot) would be spinning in his grave. But I can't find the post on this thread now.

John, yes, I put the 'one commentator' link in, but I didn't spot the quote 'It's fair to say that if Wolfe Tone read this list he'd been turning in his grave. What has happened to us? When did we start eating Oreos? When did we cave in to the demands of the chocolate chip cookies?'. I'm not really an expert on the history of Irish politics or its' notable characters' biscuit preferences.

When and why did you start eating Oreos, especially with tea? Run Away! Chocolate chip cookies have their place, but it's not with tea, and they are certainly NOT biscuits. And while I enjoy the Viscount Biscuits voting - I've never actually seen, let alone tasted one. I do have to say that if I were to encounter them all on shelf, I'd most likely pick up a box of Jammie Dodgers, just for the name. Viscounts, yes, Penguins? not so much. And yes, this has gotten quite weird. I hope Jim forgives us all for doing this to his Gran Fondo thread.

My Jaffa Cakes arrived in the mail today. Therefore, today was the first time that this old man has eaten Jaffa Cakes; they are delicious! I am surprised that they don't sell them over here.

Jim, I'm delighted you're pleased with your purchase. Another step forward for the special relationship between the USA and GB.
Dare I suggest that we discuss with our Transatlantic cousins how they might go about making a decent cup of tea?
We're so far off topic here, I'm beginning to feel a bit guilty. How are you getting on with the camera that started all this?

I feel like a badass having voted for a second time tonight while chowing down my beloved Chunky chocolate chip cookies! Top ten...nice! I leave the tea drinking (with milk of course) to my wife who learned the fine art when she lived in London as a teenager. Which biscuits do you guys recommend with.... dare I say coffee??? I've got to see if I can order said Viscount biscuits online. Google search time is on.

Voting multiple times in a single election? Shades of Chicago! The unwritten slogan, when I was a child and Richard J. Daley was mayor, was "Vote early and often." Many, many long dead voters rose from the frigid (not to mention smelly and polluted) waters of the Chicago River to vote multiple times each season. Was this perhaps an Irish tradition, handed down to the mayor through the generations? I hope not, it just seems so "Chicago."

Robt felt guilty about being off subject and asked about the camera that started all of this; so I thought I would post a few pictures taken with the new camera on recent rides. Sorry that the Viscount is not ready, so some of my other bikes are pictured. The pictures have (of course) been resampled to meet our rules. I love the little camera (Sony DSC-W830).

Lovely pictures, Jim, with a nice depth of field.
You look to be blessed with beautiful scenery and sunshine in Tehachapi. I just looked you up on Google Earth - that looks like the perfect area for DFR4 (or DFR 14 to give us time to save for the trip?).
