Checking my GP out prior to Eroica I have droped the forks slightly to grease the bearing as it was slightly notchy. The ball race on the top and bottom is not full. Is this right?

IF you can get anothear ball bearing or more in comfortably, then no.There should just be a small amount of lateral movement amongst the bearings. A case of N-1 is correct, where N is the number of balls to completely fill the race without grease. Cheers, Pete.

filled the viod with 5/32 bb but still a notchy feel. Its the housings which are poor finish. What with the pedal bearings side slap and this makes me feel the factory could have done better.

Raymondo - for what it's worth, when I greased and replaced headset bearings on my 'Pro, I could feel a slight 'grittiness ' when turning using h/bar stem. But when the bars were in , I felt nothing it was perfectly smooth. My conclusion was that any slight imperfection was exaggerated and amplified and it felt much worse than it does once the bars are in.
