A friend of mine has a Viscount and told me about this website so I thought I would take a look and try to find another bike like mine. I just bought a second hand red Viscount Sport, identical to the one in your pictures, for £100, which included complete service and checking over at the bike shop, so it needed nothing done to it except add a bottle cage. I am delighted with it because it is as good as new: it's had one previous owner who kept it in the garage all this time and rode it only a handful of times and so it still has the original tyres in perfect condition. I was stopped in the street recently by an excited elderly man who told me he'd once worked in the Viscount factory, and that if I ever wanted to sell it, it might be worth £1000. Actually I think this must be a wild exaggeration but we had an interesting chat and I said I absolutely loved my Viscount and wasn't up for selling it as I had only just got it!

Bob - add my welcome to Stoatie's. There has been interest on this forum and the long CTC thread about Viscounts about people who worked for Viscount and there is a possibility that some ex-Viscount people will come to the Second Death Forks Rally on 28 June. Did you meet this person near the Viscount factory in Potters Bar, North London, or in the vicinity of the earlier HQ at Bilston?

I met the chap in the area of Chapel Market in Islington London N1, and he was quite old, retired. I can't remember if he told me where the factory was that he worked at. I will have a look at the CTC thread you have shown me here.

Hi, Bob. I'd also like to welcome you to the forum. I'm so jealous for you to have met someone who worked for Viscount. I bet you had lots of questions. Hope some of them will find their way to this forum at some point.

Hope some of them will find their way to this forum at some point. Thank you. He told me he visits the lovely Culpeper garden in Islington regularly, so next time I am up there I will see if I can find him again and ask him some questions. I have to admit I am not a great bike expert and had no idea that a Viscount was anything particularly special until he came up to me so excited! My previous bike was a Claud Butler which I'd had since 1984 and just got stolen (my silly fault, forgot to lock it)

It's wonderful when someone comes up all excited, so I guess this man would be happy to answer some questions. :-)

This forum is not just a forum for Viscount enthusiasts; to me it's a Viscount family. I've rarely met such a bunch of nice people. It's a real privilege to part of all this. Vive la Viscount! as Jem always says.
