Hi, this my friends collection. It amounts to about 24 Viscounts at last count and I think we have picked up a green 600EX since then with some quite different looking brakes. He has collected them for over 25 years now. We also have some real nice brochures on the frame specs etc and would be happy to upload over a period of time if anyone was interested?

What i meant to say was......
Nice collection, amazing that he has so many really. I've got quite a lot of bikes, not 25+, but thy're all different.
I don't know Iif you saw the viscount that has dura ace on it that I just got, but if you had any info on that, I'd love to see a catalogue and know an approx year of release.
Cheers

:)To be fair, the bikes at the Death Fork Rally were all being ridden. If you counted the bikes we all have in our sheds and garages Ithink we would have topped 25 easily. Ok,let's just have a brief count up.I'll open with 3;- 1 Aerospace Pro,as seen at the rally. 1 SE. 1 Sport.

I don't know if I approve of this comparing the size of each other's collections; but here goes: 1 gold-plated Lambert Grand Prix Professional (as seen and ridden at the Rally) 1 fillet brazed Lambert (white/orange) 1 Aerospace Pro (I think) - silver/black - used as my commuter bike 1 Red Aerospace Sport (I think, originally). Not at present fully operational, i.e. no bb, cranks 1 Aerospace 600ex (at the Rally and in some photos, but not ridden there) 1 Aerospace 400, built up with as many black Dura Ace bits I can get hold of without breaking the bank. also 1 Corsair Wayfarer Aerospace/Chro-Moly frame. Awaiting inspiration and re-painting. 1 Aerospace 400 frame - my original Viscount, bought from new in 1981/2. There are some pictures of the bike on Flickr. Now unfortunately hors de combat due to a crack across the bb shell. Awaiting a cost effective repair (any ideas?) 1 Viscount Delta folder - most of the bits - awaiting assembly

I agree with cusqueno, my only intention in posting these pics is to share and learn. The internet is a vast mine of information and yet there seems to be little known nowadays about potters bar where they were built and so on. I think this forum should be about sharing information about things like where to get bearings and their part numbers, where you can get transfers and axels and the like. Also, to chat to like minded people about all things Viscount. That being said, its nice to know what's out there and the different models.

:)What I actually meant was,it would be a great idea if the bikes we own,and others who may be following these threads, could list the bikes they own, so we have a rough idea of what is being cherished and appreciated.

Have you seen we have an ex-employee from Potters Bar site just joined the forum. He is offering to answer questions over in the 'general chat' area. Let's make the most of it!

My collection: Aerospace Gran Touring, blue, purchased new in 1976 and restored in 2009, converted to upright in 2012 (24 1/2" a little too big) Aerospace GP blue and white / a Craigs list 2010 (21 1/2 " a little too small) Aerospace Gran Touring, yellow / Craigs list 2011 (23 1/2" just right) Aerospace Pro, grey and blue Craigs list 2012 (23 1/2") Aerospace GP red and white frame converted to Kiwi green single speed/ EBay 2012 (23 1/2")
I'd like to add a silver/black Pro and a GP but as I've learned the hard way, only in 23 1/2"

I don't see them come up for sale here in the UK...and have never seen one in real life.

Aerospace Sport, purchased 2nd hand in 1985 from original owner, restored in 2011, the "Supa Sport", all Dura Ace first gen. (57cm) Aerospace Victor, purchased in 2011 from eBay, upgraded parts to alloy where possible, but kept upright riding position and 5 speed set-up (57cm) Spacemaster folding bike, 22" wheels, purchased from eBay in 2012, original condition
I might not have that many bikes, but I haven't the longest Viscount-inspired blog on the net ("ooh-err")!

Quite agree with that! I've got: 1 fillet brazed Aerospace Sport in red being ridden. 1 fillet brazed Aerospace Sport in blue being ridden. 1 black/silver Aerospace Pro being ridden. 1. fillet brazed Aerospace Sport frame, made pretty by the famous Busaste, waiting to be build. 1. fillet brazed Aerospace Sport frame waiting to be powder coated and build. I sadly crashed 1 red lugged Sprint, but I'm sure I'll make something out of it. Kept the components to go on another bike at some point. I doubt I'll ever get to such a large collection as 25 +, but then I only started in April and I'm still young. lol

Hi Sooper8. My best guess why they called it Gran Touring was because they didn't want you to think you could "go fast" on it with the Shurmann steel wheels, hence you go slow and easy so you can only "tour" the scenery. My first upgrade on the blue one was to get a nice alloy Weinman concave rim wheel set. The Gran Touring was the cheapest aerospace model available ($150) which was still good money for a student.

Haha, thanks for that explanation. It still delights and amazes me that you can pick up almost anything in the Viscount range below £50 today and after a bit of work, have a bike that actually would have been out of my price range in the early 80's when I started work, or the 70's as a kid. My mum had to buy my Indy 500 for my birthday and Christmas on credit over a year (it was only about £100 , but that was quite a lot then) But I do acknowledge that Viscount were great value for money and cheaper than most in the bike shop at the time)

I've got one, Aerospace Sport, cobalt purchased May 1978, £115, in Edinburgh. Since 2000 it has been my sunny day bike, I now use a 1980s Witcomb for general day to day riding. When the bottom bracket gave out it went to Argos for a ream and sleeve. When the seat pin tore apart (I got a taxi home) it got replaced. When the bars and brake levers wore out they got replaced with some lovely Shimano levers and a ttt bar from local bike shop. It now has a seven speed block (tee hee) and replacement Shimano derailleur at rear, still has original Union pedals, Shimano 600 front changer, Shimano centre pulls and left SR crank.

I have:
-My beloved grey/black Pro -A 'pistachio' Sport, currently in town mode with straight bars and awaiting a donor bike to come along before becoming a drop handled tourer. -The silver with red Child's Sprint still awaiting a little bit of a tidy up.
So far...
