There's a California near Derby but as far as I know, no one ever refers to that area as such, but it does say it on the maps.
Foss, you would be a good tabloid headline writer. You drew me in with that title!

I had another Epic "titled" ride in mind but I don't think there is a sign post as it's a small hamlet and 45 miles is a long way for no photograph for the "Places I've been to but not where you think" Album , though there is a place in America not far from Foss Towers .

Pete,
There's a seaside village in Lincolnshire called California, though I don't recall there being much there.
We have a California (and a Baltimore) locally, so it could have been that when you frequented these parts, and you will no doubt have been to Slack Bottom!
It's also possible round here to set off from Scotland and travel north to Egypt!
Place names can be weird and wonderful.

I'm intrigued to know what you did once you got to Canada? Turn round and go back to Bognor? Or take a train or support vehicle a la TdF?

Sprockit Thanks Dave,it was the California in Lincs.I have been to Slack Bottom, and there appears to be an outbreak of them in towns close to shops with a very large "M"! Cheers, Pete.

Sprockit Of cause there's Washington, Tyne & Wear as I recall, and Boston in that flat bit to the east - Lincolnshire?

That sounds like the best way of dealing wiht the onset of the swedish shop. There's a limit to how much lingonberry sauce you can eat in one lifetime. And trips to the swedish shop always seem to result in a list of jobs when we get back home.

I've also done the trip, in Lincolnshire, of about 12 miles from Boston to New York - and passed through Bunker's Hill on the way!
New York is about 2 miles south east of RAF Coningsby.
Could be an idea for a themed ride to places with American or other similarly connected place names.

If we had a burger at each American named place,we'd soon end up with "Slack Bottom"! Cheers, Pete.
