I have a potential winter rebuild! ... a 1975 Aerospace GPM This has the lugless frame like the Aerospace Pro, with Shimano 50/500 derailleurs, and a white & blue livery. Viscount parts include the type III forks, pedals, callipers, porthole chainset, hubs (& Nisi Evian clincher rims). It does need a lot of TLC, lacks a decent saddle, tyres, bar-tape, and some brake parts, but it is basically sound. I'll add photos in due course, but here's my first challenge to the cogescenti: Do you know what GPM stands for? Attachments:

Lol. Wonder if that labeling was originally to be for the GP mixtie? Best, John “wheelson”

Sorry Jem, I can't help you there (it is a genuine enquiry) If I find out, I'll let you know!

I have no idea about the GPM name; I can only find a vague reference to some touch up paint and this reference from one of our posts. Your photo appears to be a normal Aerospace frame in blue and white; is there a GPM sticker somewhere? I have a lot of old brochures and cannot find a GPM model; perhaps it is referring to the color? Perhaps another member can solve your mystery. Nevertheless, you have a great bike so you can ride with a smile.
All the Best Jim

I remember seeing the GPM listed on one of the Viscount advertisements but there was no mention of what that meant. The same ad that listed GP and GPM also mentions a mixtie. I wonder if the GPM decals were originally meant for the mixtie but somehow lost their way in the shuffle? Best, John “wheelson”

I don't think it means "Mixte" but you're not far off ... ... here's a clue from Bicycling! magazine, March '76:

Update! ... From the 1974 dealer manual, section 3.7.2, GPM means "Grand Prix Mens". Apparently, GPM is the Yamaha (US) code for the Trusty (UK) Aerospace GP. Viscount Lugless Models | Colour | Yamaha code | Aerospace Pro (tubular) | Silver/blue | PRT | Aerospace Pro (clincher) | Silver/black | PRC | Aerospace GP | White/red or White/blue | GPM | Aerospace Sport | Red or Blue | ASM | Gran Touring | Yellow or Blue | GTM |

Rod gave me the needed clue. Yep, 1976 found these and added them to my Flickr.
Cheers Jim

I got the word from Steve 'Bustaste' last night that it stood for Grand Prix Model.
