Beat me to it! It popped up in my FB feed today and I was thinking of posting it here. All my bikes bar one are friction - the exception being one intended as a loan bike for visitors. I made up a bike for my daughter when she went to college about seven years ago with indexed downtube shifters and a Shimano 105 gruppo (I actually upgraded to a 600 SIS RD) and I liked the way that worked. She was recently charged an exhorbitant amount by a bike shop for repairs and the shifting doesn't seem to be working very well. I suspect a compatibility problem, as the writer in Outside mentions, that I will need to sort out.

Fortunately there are enough vintage bikes gathering dust to meet the world's needs for the rest of this century.
