This is the bike I acquired 35 odd years ago when I started competitive cycling at uni. Some of the parts have been changed, notably the brakes but the rear mech is original and I still have the corresponding front one. The seller said the frame was Columbus SL but that may or may not be true. Of interest is the combination of pantographed fork with embossed seat stays, Campagnolo dropouts and brazed on cable guides above the bottom bracket. What do people think? My guess is a 600 AX/EX variation. flic.kr/ps/424tzv

Thanks Jem. Those all have some similarities but not quite there.

Thanks Jem. Those all have some similarities but not quite there. The lugs (front anyway) are the same? Somewhere in the past, the member Foss gave info about the dropouts on his - but I cant find it now and can't recall what was said.

Trawling the internet, I only saw one example of a frame with campy dropouts - a blue one, if I remember.

I wonder of anyone else will have any thoughts on this? All I can add at this point (and it's been said many times), is that Viscount used to have well known supply issues and therefore assemble all manner of combinations of components and frames together - this could be such a bike?

I remember going through this with my blue (repainted) Viscount, and we never decided exactly which model it was. Some sort of Aerospace but several details didn’t quite correspond. I now have the “pseudo-Supa”, brushed chrome and all BUT no water bottle braze-ons as shown and as seen on every other one. So who knows? I was working in a bike shop in North Carolina, USA mid-1974 which was the era of the energy shortage bike boom. So many bikes never met the spec sheet, not sure about Viscount. I expect the Covid bike boom produced similar results. Best, John “wheelson”

Thanks for the comments - the next step is to swap the brake levers for exposed cable ones (I still have the old pedals), put some wider tyres on, and then think about next year's Eroica.

Edwardto - if you are doing Eroica and taking some friends along who don't have vintage bikes, check out my sales forum post and try and temp them to buy. Or maybe you fancy a 'back -up bike' or to just extend your Viscount family? I did Eroica Uk a few years back on the Deore 18AX Thanks Jem

With the chromework, my guess is an Aerospace 600 12 (maybe produced in Italy using Campy dropouts). Or the 81 Aerospace 600 ex forum.cyclinguk.org/viewtopic.php?t=21010&start=2670but that seems to have cable guides under the BB. What I haven't mentioned is that there is no frame number - a one off team bike?
