Is the bottom bracket threaded or pressed? You can tell it is threaded if there are any tool surfaces like flats or splines to screw in the cups or cartridge. If pressed you will see the side of the sealed bearing. This bike looks quite a bit like my Gran Sports. In any case, yiu have an "aerospace" fillet brazed frame, which is light and responsive, plus many nice components.
If you want to get rid of the suicide lever remnants, take out the big screw, washers, and suicide lever stub. Dig the tiny spring out of the screw hole, then using a hacksaw, cut off the protruding rod flush with the brake lever body. There is a slight ridge on the rod that helps keep the cut straight. None of this will affect the operation of the brake lever in any way. You can then add brake hoods if desired. Too bad the suicide levers themselves are missing. They make excellent coat hangers.

That's looking pretty nice Emeric. I like it, especially the long arm Shimano RD.
By the way - no one (even employees ) could ever fathom the s/n's, they seem a bit all over the place and almost random.

Yea, it appears the bottom bracket has press fit bearings. I've posted links to photos. Runs really smooth. No noises at all under heavy load (fingers crossed). I'm really enjoying this bike. My son got it for $30 bucks a couple of years ago to get around during a summer on the coast. Sat in storage with me for a couple of years until I decided to give it a whirl. I was impressed by the way it rode. Not quite sure if it's a Sport or a Gran Sport. Also would like to figure out the year. There are two stickers still on the seat tube. One is a bike shop sticker from The Bike Shop in Rochester, Minnesota. Out of business now. The other is a State of Minnesota bicycle registration sticker for 1977-1979. I've also posted a link of a photo. Kinda cool that they had a law requiring you to register your bike. Maybe leftover from the WWII years when they wanted to keep track of steel and rubber reserves. Who knows. So, I guess I'm leaning towards it being maybe a 76-77 model year? Another thing, why no decals? Was it originally sold this way? Not a Sebring because they have lugged frames. Here is a 1975 (I think).
I have what I believe is a '76 Gran Sports and it has a threaded BB. I think Emeric's is a bit earlier.
Emeric, you might find a date code stamped on either of the Shimano derailleurs or brake levers but of course they may not be original to the bike. Are you in the US?

Yes, I'm in the U.S., Fresno, CA to be exact. Became a flatlander when I moved here from Vermont 5 years ago. As for the bike, no date codes or any codes or markings on the brake levers. I assume they are Viscount levers but can't be sure. No markings on the fork or headset either. The thing that has me leaning towards 1976 is this ad from 76 I saw on this forum. If you look at the photo and specs on the ad they match up pretty well with what I have with some discrepancies. See below. flic.kr/p/yHfQLA

I see what you mean about the similarities. I think 1976 is probably about right anyway.

Whoops! Wrong last page, just to add to the confusion. Here's the correct one. Application 8

You may find the following links to be useful. The I think the Titalist GS morphed into the Tourney GS.

The Crane, Titlist, and Tourney components share pretty much the same interchangeable components (pivot bolts, springs, cages, and so forth) The Crane used a different look on the pivot bolt heads as well as brass bushings/bearings, and a different cable attachment. The Crane also had aluminum alloy cages instead of steel for the other versions. I say all this as we scrounge to keep our 40 plus year old bike components alive, and new old stock stuff is horribly expensive. Also, for the record, there was a newer version of the Titlist that had nylon(?) inserts on the pivot bolts that are externally visible. These components will not interchange with the original version. By the way, these are excellent derailleurs and I have them on other non-Viscounts. Best, John “wheelson”
