Recently we had a 150 pound stray cat in our neighborhood. I suspect he was following our local herd of deer.
Cheers Jim

That’s not the sort of kitty we normally see over here.

That’s not the sort of kitty we normally see over here. Nor here in Western Pennsylvania USA, though not unheard of. Usually black bear, coyotes, and a few rattlesnakes on the trail. Best, John “wheelson”

Our badgers can be quite scary 🤣 Agreed. I lived in Minnesota ("The Badger State") for a couple of years and they were scary. So are minks and fishers. Here in suburban Boston there are coyotes and foxes, I'm told there are a few bears but haven't seen them yet. Every couple of years a moose ambles down from New Hampshire looking for a mate, doesn't find one, and heads back north.

Oh yeah, and beavers chewing up all of the trees. Brian Pretty tame on the local trails, there’s one section of the Great Allegheny Passage just past the Ohiopyle State Park where I’ve seen both rattlesnakes and copperheads. I don’t know why they like that one section, I guess they crawl out onto the gravel for warmth since the area is heavily wooded. Not sure if I would want to be on a recumbent there! Once while camping near the C&O Towpath, I heard a rustling underneath the ground cloth of my bivy tent. After night visions of a snake burrowing beneath, it turned out to be a mole that was uncovered at daybreak. Best, John “wheelson”

Best, John “wheelson” I didn't think we had any venomous snakes here but I looked it up and we do - copperheads and timber rattlesnakes. My local bike trail crosses several swamps on causeways and in summer there are often large northern water snakes basking on the pavement, sometimes four or 5 feet long. They look like tire treads (gators, in trucker lingo).

Jim, I wish this cat was facing the camera so we could see its eyes glowing.

They tend to be uncooperative :-)

They tend to be uncooperative :-) I guess that's the hallmark of wildcats, bears, and poison snakes.
