I am selling this Viscount on behalf of a chap I sold it to back in 2010.
I put a lot of effort into this bike project and spent a small fortune on it. The guy who bought it, Alan Suttie, has had it hanging on a wall ever since. It has never been ridden (come on Alan, my bikes are for riding!!!). Not surprisingly, Alan is adamant that the bike is no different from the day I sold it to him. Well, apart from a bit of cable sleeve breakdown - tut tut, Shimano/Clarks.
This is the spec. of the bike when I built it up:
Viscount Aerospace
Frame: 22.5" Viscount Aerospace low temperature fillet brazed - Potters Bar factory built. Phoenix 1027 chrome molybdenum steel tubing. Seat post clip and pinch bolt rechromed
Paintwork: Resprayed Flamboyant Red metallic. New frame decals
Forks: New, fully chromed, chrome molybdenum. 27” or 700C compatible.
Bottom bracket: New, Mavic (rebuildable)
Headset: New Tange
Seat post: Birmalux (polished), alloy
Bar stem: SR forged alloy
Handlebars: Belleri engraved alloy Maes bend alloy
Chainset: Forged alloy, cast in one piece SR Royal, 144 BCD. New SR chainrings, 43/52 teeth, new Campagnolo chainring bolts, new crank bolts.
Pedals: Lambert/Viscount aerospace alloy cast in one piece (left pedal new old stock) alloy quill design. New MKS toe clips and new Lapize leather straps
Wheels: 27x1.25”. New Sakae Royal 36 hole, alloy large flange quick release hubs. Stainless steel thick gauge spokes. Wheels built by award winning wheel builder Paul Hewitt. Rims alloy (Ofmega I think).
Tyres: New old stock Michelin high pressure “50”. New inner tubes.
Front derailleur: Suntour VX
Rear derailleur: Shimano Dura Ace ‘Crane’.
Gear levers: New Shimano
Freewheel: New Shimano 5 speed 14/28
Gear cable guides: New bolt on Shimano Dura Ace
Chain: New Shimano HG
Brakes: New Shimano Tourney centre pulls, new Fibrax brake blocks, new Shimano brake levers (with optional safety lever extensions), new Shimano quick release levers and new Shimano Dura Ace brake cable clips, new Clarks brake cables and outer sleeves.
Saddle: Viscount with chrome molybdenum rails, leather/Kevlar covering. New saddle clamp
Gear cables and sleeves: New Shimano
It is a lovely bike to ride and perfect for sprints. Fast, stiff and very responsive. The SR chainset was their flagship model back in the day - obviously a Campag copy but no worse for it. The Dura Ace RD is as good as it gets and the Shimano brakes have plenty of stopping power. The MAVIC threadless BB is a bit rare and delicious too. I had the faces of the BB shell cut with MAVIC's own facing tool to ensure a perfect fit with their threadless BB. The metallic flam red paintjob is stunning. It was done by an old lady who did all the frame painting for Hewitt Cycles. Sadly, she has retired - a big loss to the industry.
Somebody, please buy this bike. Gerrit on t'road and thrash it. I can't cos it's a bit too small for me.
The owner, Alan Suttie can be contacted on this number, 0785 666 2143
