Hi. Here's an old Viscount saddle that has finally given up the struggle. Is there any way of retrieving it? Even if I had the skill, recovering isn't really an option since the interest and value is in the Viscount branding on the leather. flic.kr/p/2mjgieR

fyi; as far as restoring goes, it appears " Emblemagic.com" is back in business under new management...maybe all those missing dustcaps, etc. can be replaced without resorting to "3d printers"...."food for thought"

Sadly, it looks to only have a future as a wall decoration. I have an Assmann (that is the real name) saddle that broke in two; it looks good on the wall.
Cheers Jim

Great thread title John! I've never seen a leather Viscount saddle IRL sadly, so it makes me even sadder to see one of the few in that state! There's a bespoke saddle guy near me but that's a bit far away to be feasible for you. I know Ideale saddles have actually recommenced production in France (a bit like how Chater-Lea has been restarted in Blighty). But in terms of full-on repairs, I think you could go worse than getting in touch with Tim Dawson, he of the amazing bike collection. Here is an example of his saddle repair skill. The point of it, as you say, would be to keep the Viscount stamp somehow. maybe he would have some ideas about that. b

As far as an original leather Viscount, I have one on the blue “unknown” Viscount that’s good for a few miles but is so incredibly hard I can’t imagine a lengthy ride on it. In light of my current prostate diagnosis, I guess it will be for show only. I have several Selle drop nose cutout saddles that look quite ridiculous but will likely be my immediate future. Terry TFI’s also seem to function well. I have a well-broken in Brooks Pro, B17’s, and a B15 for shorter rides. I’ll just have to see what post-radiation treatments allow. Best, John “wheelson”
