I found this video inspiring and most likely it will be so for the other "old farts" in our group. I am impressed with their fitness; certainly better than mine. I also am impressed by their riding positions. I suppose they do not have compressed disks in their neck as I do. I adjust my bars slightly higher than my saddle and still suffer. My solution is nice little breaks where I sip water and enjoy the scenery. Of course my cardiac problems add another level of concern; if I find an inspiring video on that subject, I will add it to this post.

Riding is getting harder for me every year. I'm 'only' 57 but I have neck, hip and chronic back problems. The genetic lottery we all subject to is very frustrating/annoying. I know people who at my age were still doing 15000 miles cycling/year without any problems. They have never had any injuries too! They did nothing different to me, it's just the way these things go... You just have to keep moving no matter what and adopt the mantra that any exercise is better than none.

I saw that GCN video last week as well, and was a bit disturbed to find that they're only slightly older than I am. I guess that I'm a fully paid-up old fart as well.
re: VASLOVE's comment - I find that cycling is now replacing all the other activities I used to undertake, as various bits of me start falling apart. I stopped playing rugby in my mid-30s when wing forwards started getting younger and fitter. Field hockey was the next to go, then I stopped playing league cricket in my late 50s, and I stopped running because my knees were shot as a result of 40-odd years of pounding up to the crease to deliver balls that were becoming increasingly on the slow side of medium-pace.
Covid has prevented me from going skiing, and I've been avoiding the gym due to the inherent risk of being in an environment where there's a roomful of people breathing heavily. Cycling has the benefit of being a low-impact sport, and "working from home" seemed to involve a lot of midweek cycling which I hadn't been able to do when I was tied to the workplace.
I ENTIRELY agree with your mantra, and would add my own. Cycling is simply the best way to get your exercise fix while remaining seated throughout.

If you really want to feel old, play American football with some young folks. After a few plays you feel like lying down, and not getting up for a week.

Inspiring video.
I still have ongoing knee problems and hardly ever ride out at the moment. It seems anyone with a minor complaint goes to the bottom of the pile on our waiting lists for hospital appointments, had a X-ray in January and still heard nothing regarding physio/steroid injections.
Having said that, whilst it’s disheartening to get the road bikes out I should still make the effort and do some shorter rides.
