I just watched the first stage of the Tour de France. I was flabbergasted when a spectator stuck a big sign into the path of the cyclists, bringing down about half the Peloton. It appears the spectator was hamming it up for the TV camera.

I saw several videos of the crash. It's sad when the fans want to be the show and endanger athletes. There was one shot of a bike just snapped apart at both seat stays. That's carbon fiber for you.

I saw those snapped frames, as well as a lot of past photos and in person observations at the shop. I’m not ready to invest in CF, the Lambert and Viscount issues seem no more harmful and a lot less expensive! 😏 Best, John “wheelson”

I've been using a titanium Motobecane Le Champion Ti SL (Bikesdirect.com) for triathlons so no worries about any carbon cracking. A plus for lightness and the brushed Ti gives it a bit of a "Supabike" look. By the way John, how's you pseudo Supabike progressing??

A plus for lightness and the brushed Ti gives it a bit of a "Supabike" look. By the way John, how's you pseudo Supabike progressing?? I always liked the idea of Ti, good riding and no worries about paint. My Austro Daimler Vent Noir ll, though Reynolds 531 steel, has that black chrome “impervious” finish and is worry free as well. As far as the pseudo Supa, it’s going a bit slow but should be done by DFR day. I pulled the old bb axle and discovered that the tubes had been plugged with a strange green carpet padding (??), probably to keep the plating liquids out. Since the tubing has no vent holes, I plan to give it a Framesaver shot before new bearings / axle. I do have all the components to build it, just have to find the time to do so. It seems my time is consumed by health issues, tests, consultations. Best, J “wheelson”
