Today's ride was a late 60's Dawes Galaxy with updated running gear. Plain gauge Reynolds 531 is a stiff ride indeed.

Very nice Brian. Always had a hankering for a Dawes Galaxy, as much to see how the touring geometry feels with the longer chainstays etc.
Interesting point about the plain gauge 531. I had an old Ernie Clements 12 Speed and whilst it was 531 it was quite a stiff ride, perhaps that was plain gauge. At the time I remember preferring the bikes I had that were made from Reynolds 501.

A friend has an 1980's model Galaxy , fine looking bike and had a ride on it. Enjoyable. I love that colour scheme Brian.

The 18-inch chain stays do provide plenty of room for panniers but I would need a lot of clamps to outfit this bike for touring. There is not a single eyelet or braze-on to be found on this vintage.

I love the yellow bar tape and have it on my magenta and yellow 1987 Centurion Ironman Expert. I just can't keep it looking clean after 1 season.
