Jim, he's giving away ones he has been carrying around in his pocket for two weeks. In Massachusetts, the legislature keeps the governor on a tight leash, one of the oddities of usually having a Republican governor in the bluest of blue states.

Might be hard to find a tap over here as well, but I have not looked.

My wife and I are supposed to get our vaccinations tomorrow. We could not get them locally but were able to get appointments 40 miles away. Lets hope it works. Jim Great news! Best of luck to you, Jim. It’ll be great when we’re all done with this mess and can all just get on with the things we love and enjoy. Best, John “wheelson” Pfizer vaccine, a piece of cake. Just a regular shot.

My wife and I received Pfizer number two today. We had to drive to the Antelope Valley for the vaccination; so afterwards we visited a Shopping Mall. At a Macy's, she was able to shop for cosmetics and we bought three pairs of shoes. We have not done something like that in a year. I generally hate shopping at malls (I prefer hardware and tool stores) but this time I liked it. In truth, just getting out was fun. Covid seems to be on the decline in this area; I hope the trend continues so we can get back to normal. I may even return to being bored while shopping. All the Best Jim

Had 14 months of hair cut off today - an easy way to lose a few pounds. That will probably be my lifetime record hair length. I'll have to check photos from 1972 or so to be sure.

Brian Brian, that’s a pretty good run! I’ve made it through with a couple of light trims by Mrs.W. Then, when the barber shop opened with massive cleaning procedures, I gladly returned. Never thought it possible to get a haircut while wearing a mask! So 4 haircuts in 4 months, the last after my second vaccination. Longest hair though was probably after 1974 after my Army service. Pretty large beard, too. Best, John “wheelson”

I saw a good suggestion the other day, put you old hair out for birds to use as nesting material. It’s just the right time of year for it.

I saw a good suggestion the other day, put you old hair out for birds to use as nesting material. It’s just the right time of year for it. We used to have big dog - a Husky/Labrador mix. She had very thick under-hair that would shed like crazy in the spring. One April or May day she was sleeping in the sun and a titmouse landed nearby and gradually hopped closer to the dog, eventually hopping onto her, which she did not notice. The titmouse pulled out a big tuft of loose fur and flew off. The dog woke up but it was too late. This process was repeated four or five times over the course of a hour. I guess that bird had not heard the adage to let a sleeping dog lie. The fur probably made a good nest, albeit one that smelled like a dog.

I've found self haircuts are easier than I thought. I just let the Mrs get the back when it goes wild and I chop as needed. I always liked a full head of longish hair before I went to a more "professional" look. For now, I'm sticking with the self maintenance look.
Hey Brian, you had a good head of hair. Stay away from the barber!

I liked it for the novelty but it was a lot of bother. I needed probably another year in order to pull it into a pony tail, more time than I could stand.

Brian - that really is a head of hair!
I bought a Wahl trimmer for £12, years and years ago from TKMaxx and have done my own for a long time. I get a slight satisfaction at not having to make an appointment, or pay £10 or more for a trim every month. Granted, I've got very little hair on top and I can cut it blind-folded by now, but I never need to go into the barbers again.

I had my first jab last Saturday and wasn’t too well with it to be honest, only started to feel myself around Thursday. The guy I work with was the same as well. Hoping the second one has less side effects.

Absolutely right about the vaccine side effects, definitely better than than contracting the virus. Even if you’re in the 5 percent or so that still gets covid, it should be a much milder case. That’s what happened to my sister-in-law, and her covid case was no worse than the normal vaccine side effects. So the vaccine is most definitely worth it. Best, John “w”

I read in the paper today that if you ride a motorbike on a 12 mile round trip to get your vaccination, then you have a greater chance of dying on the journey than you have of the vaccine. If you cycle, the distance would have to be 40 miles for the trip to be more dangerous than the vaccine.

In California, we are pretty much back in masks. It seems we have a resurgence of Covid that is overwhelmingly composed of new variants and almost exclusively infects the unvaccinated. Nearly half of our population have not been vaccinated; most of them are saying they will never get a vaccination. Do you have this reluctance in other areas?

It seems like there is mixed opinion here too, Jim, but the media are suggesting most people have been compliant about the vaccine.
We are technically allowed to not wear masks now although many carry on to do so, especially in shops and public places. Cases are rising again and according to the media we are going through ‘pingdemic’ with the mobile phone track and trace system telling people to isolate.
Incidentally, my missus tested positive for coronavirus a week or so ago. She teaches around 50 students, so suppose it was inevitable at some point. She has had flu symptoms with loss of taste and smell, thankfully she had already had her first jab because it makes you wonder how ill she would have been otherwise. Miraculously I kept testing negative despite isolating with her for 10 days, usually if something is going around I’m one of the first to catch it! She feels much better now but still not 100%.
I think we’ll be living with this for some time and fully expect further lockdowns in the future.

I think we’ll be living with this for some time and fully expect further lockdowns in the future. It’s pretty much mask less here in Western Pennsylvania USA, but not sure how long that will last. Mrs. W and I just returned from 10 days in Yellowstone and Grand Tetons National Parks. On return, Mrs. W commented that on the return flight(s), between mask on entering airport property, 2 hours before boarding, 2 hr. flight, 2 hr. layover and change planes, 2 more hrs. in the air, deplane and pickup luggage and out the door, we’d had masks on for almost 13 straight hrs. (except for drinks and nibbles). Contrast that with inside the Parks visitor areas and restaurants (mostly takeout), almost everyone was mask-less with no social distancing. Visitors from every country imaginable. I hope my symptoms are from jet lag and 7-8K foot elevation! Wonderful trip, however, with even an unexpected 20 mile bike ride. Unfortunately, a modern rental mountain bike with a noisy front hydraulic disk brake - not a single Lambert or Viscount to be found. As they say, beggars can’t be choosers. Best, John “wheelson”

In Massachusetts, 66% of the state population is fully vaccinated. 76% of the eligible population (i.e. over 12 years old) is fully vaccinated. In Middlesex County, where we live and which is by far the most populated and most densely populated county in the state, 83% of eligible people are fully vaccinated.
I don't see many people with masks outdoors. At the grocery it ranges from 10% to 50% masked, depending on which store you go to.
We interact regularly with three unvaccinated grandchildren so we still mask up in public indoor spaces in an effort to not get a breakthrough infection and pass it along to them. When they are vaccinated, we will probably dispense with masks if the transmission rate stays low around here, which it should. At least until the horde of unvaccinated knuckleheads cook up a variant that resists the vaccine.

It has been a while since this thread was active so I thought I would post this picture. I'm sure the sign has been there for over a year but I just noticed it along a bike path I use regularly. I am starting to photograph things like this for posterity (I hope.) When I looked at the picture I realized that the pharmacy where I got vaccinated is in the background.

I've been off the bike for a week recovering from COVID, which finally found me at a wedding the previous weekend. I had "mild" symptoms but this thing is no joke. I'm glad I got the omicron booster in September. Probably another week before I'll feel like riding again. Stay healthy if you can.

Mrs. W just recovered from a bout of Covid, her second since July. I miraculously didn’t have it this time, probably due to the monoclonal antibodies I received in July. We were both up to date with vaccinations but not Omicron boosted. Looks like this beast will be around for a while so I guess we have no choice but to armor up. Best, John “wheelson”

Brian Sorry to hear that Brian, but like you say, it almost certainly would have been worse without the jabs and booster. I have heard almost identical stories over the last few months around here. I have somehow managed to dodge it so far , and am now on the 4th jab, just last week. The numbers are on the rise again here in UK.

So far my wife and I have not caught Covid; it may help that we are up to date on our boosters. Nevertheless, sitting in a theater, in front of a person who is coughing, has a whole new meaning.
