Not in any particular order... this is an early incarnation though because it's still got the Bluemels mudguards that it came with.
ALready testing out the reversed-North Road bar set up. Using Velo-Orange thumb-shifter adapter to put a Dura Ace downtube shifter on the handlbars. This is with Crane rear derailleur and DA centrepull brakes by the look.
shot of said shifter set-up. Worked really well actually.
The north roads were a bit low, so I put the original "promenade" bars that Victor came with back on, albeit flipped for a more aggressive riding position.
original handgrips as well. closer shot of shifter setup.
Running a silly big ring. those 27 x 1 1/8 Paselas are spot-on though. Still use them.
early single-speed version. No-one is immune from at least one single-speed conversion. Luckily it was all reversible.
original weinmann sidepulls. not a bad chainline though...
with original Positron 1 (dual cable actuated version) and crappy freewheel
original bars, stem, derailleur, guards; new wheels and crankset. Nice Sugino Mighty crankset and drilled ring that unfortunately didn't have much wear left in the teeth.
same bike basically but with aforementioned big ring silliness: 53t Super Record
lovely, lovely Lambert centrepulls; a gift from a very generous friend; close up of lovely Bluemels guards
back to the original Positron with its bakelite thumb shifter and dual cables (note new Honjo mudguards as old Blumels were too short in the rear and I was getting a dirty arse).
Positron rear mech: the first indexed derailleur in the world. This one is the second one Victor has had. The first one folded up and threw itself into the spokes; note Dura Ace gold freewheel —unnecessary bling silliness
gone down to a more sensible 47t chainring, still Super Record though. The awesome MKS Sylvan quill pedals.
getting close to the ultimate iteration: stripped back aluminium rack (I hate black components with a passion!), Honjo guards, Positron, rebuilt 27" wheels on restored Viscount hubs, 47t front ring, 12-24t DA freewheel, flipped bars, thumb shifter, Ideale 70 saddle. Home-made leather mudflap and tool bag. What I call my High Performance Gentleman's Town Bike. A really, really good ride.
Thumb shifter got moved to the stem because I put a stem with longer reach and there wasn't enough cable to get it onto the bars, which still shits me a bit. That's the problem with the Positron cables being double, you can't get longer cable! Love the sweep of the brake cables though.
close up of shifter setup. note Velo Orange rackaleur and handlebar bag in background. Neither works that well really.
final iteration plus the VA Supa Sport for company
and how he is today
well that was a bit longer than I thought! Only wish I'd taken pictures of Victor when I got him. b
