Cracking job, the fork came up really well - did you re chrome it or just polish it? How did you get that bit of seat post out?

I just polished the fork, and I didn't get the bit of seat post out, I managed to free it and then it went further down the seat tube.

Absolutely love it! Say what you want, but grey suits a Viscount. Looks rather contemporary. Well done, man.

Great photo story. And love your solar panels too! I agree that the paint job looks great. I much prefer plain all-over colour to some of the OTT paint schemes that one sees around the place. It helps the little details like nice componentry stand out better.

Superb!
That looks great- I love these posts with the 'before' and 'after' shots. Are you going to source some decals or leave it minimal? It looks so lean and light. How is it riding?
Those guys did an amazing job with brazing that brake tube on. Can you give us the details please?
I see you got the Lidle £30 bike stand too? That was the best £30 I ever spent.
ps - what/how did you do the bb and reassembly? what tools?

Thanks for the complements guys, the colour was originally chosen to go on my 2 door Range rover Classic and I thought I'd see what it looked like on a bike frame, turned out rather well. I will get decals for it eventually but I've been told off for spending to much on it already, don't want to push my luck. Not sure how well it rides with the new wheels yet as my floor pump fell to pieces, should hopefully be out on it later.
Argos racing cycles in Bristol did the brake bridge repair, removed the old one and put a new strengthened one in. I had to drill out the hole at the rear as it was threaded to take a bolt on rather than through brake.
BB removal was done by removing the non drive-side crank arm then replacing the bolt and drifting it out with a rubber mallet. I used a metal tool that I found in a garage to knock the bearings out, no idea what it's original purpose was. Looks like a cross between a fire poker and a extension bar for a socket wrench. Replaced the bearings by tapping them in slightly to get them started, then a piece of threaded bar with nuts and washers to press them in. Placed the spindle and drive-side crank arm in the freezer overnight (threads are stripped and it's not coming off again in a hurry or one piece for that matter). Used the rubber mallet to hammer it all back together. Not the prettiest of methods but needs must and all that.
I'm loving the work stand, much better quality than I was expecting.
There's another bank of solar panels on the front of the roof too, although it's the girlfriends parents house so they get the benefit rather us.

Well spotted, Bendo! Solar panels are fantastic.
Stoatie: got myself the stand and I'm rather surprised how sturdy it is. I'm more than happy to do some serious BB torquing (fixed cup) in this one. A tad on the heavy side, but hey, it should hold the bike, right? Your great work got me thinking: should I go for a respray on the Indy? But then I'm thinking the Indy is a bike I don't want to be nicked, probably better to keep it this rusty and with old (cleaned) rims. Not too shiny, not too attractive.

New cranks turned up and I set about cleaning them up. Noticed that some of the anodizing had been rubbed away (by shoes probably), so I got the polishing mops out. Before After

So this crank set is going on your Sport? If so, we expect you to zoom ahead of the DFR2 peloton on the flat and downhill due to the weight advantage of drillium. And to speed uphill on the teeny small ring. :-)

No one said there would be hills at DFR2, that's it I'm out. The little ring is mainly to tackle the coast road down here in Cornwall, repeated short bursts of over 15%. That and I'm planning on doing The Dartmoor Devil in October 100km with over 2500 metres of climbing.

Reminds me that I need to get the polishing kit going. Got everything here, but didn't have the time yet. Shame I haven't my workshop; it would be so much more fun with the bench grinder. Lovely looking crank set, by the way, Stoatie. And did you get my email?

Hi Stella yes I did thanks. It's definitely an option although the postage would be an extra $30 and I imagine that they are JIS taper rather than the ISO that I now need.

New bottom bracket, cranks and derailleurs fitted Stronglight 99 BIS Shimano Crane GS Shimano Deore M700 (deer head) I know this is a bit later than it should be, but 1 it's a stunning looking derailleur and 2 finding one for a triple from the 70's is really hard.
