The worst might well be the snow BUT, I was prepared for it.
The other night, I had to pedal about 15 miles through a pouring rain and after work and a long day. That may not be as bad as when I actually had to pedal through some sleet along with rain and puddles all over the place, the snow from winter had melted.

I generally don't start out in any kind of bad weather any more as I don't need to ride my bike as a necessity as I did way back as a teenager without a car.
But I have been caught in horrible driving wind and heavy rain with almost nighttime darkness without lights during a mid afternoon ride last year. I felt like the bike weighed about 50llbs and I seriously considered the fact that I would have been quicker pushing it. I really didn't enjoy it but once I got home I felt strangely alive and like a teenager again.
I haven't ridden in snow since 1984.

My worst was a coast to coast ride 17 years ago. 80 mph side winds and sleet. It was ok when I left Penrith so I wore a light Pertext shell, I made the mistake of not changing it as the bad weather came in. By the time I got to the cafe at Hartside I was seriously exposed and couldn't stop shivering despite putting a dry t shirt on. It was one of the rare times that I've actually been worried for my own safety while out on the bike. When we set off from the cafe in terrible conditions I changed my top for a Gortex one. Almost immediately my body temp started to improve and I became much more comfortable. Ever since then, I've been a great believer that quality kit is worth every penny + have trusted Gortex.

I suppose it was a haboob in the California desert; very high winds, blowing dust and sand, followed by raining mud. Fortunately, the ones we have don't last very long (maybe an hour); unfortunately, shelter is hard to find. We rode it out behind an abandoned car. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HaboobCheers Jim

One of my worst was on a return trip from the CTC birthday rides in York,to the Wirral. We got to Skipton on the first day in glorious sunshine. Camped overnight in a farmer's field, awoke to the pitter patter of very heavy rain! We had to get back that day,so,pack everything up,two wet tents weigh a lot more than two dry ones! Load the bikes and away. It threw it down for the whole way home. THe Liverpool Dock Road was slippy cobbles,I froze on the "Ferry 'cross the Mersey" and did the final ride home in a bad state. Got to the house, poured a gallon of water out of my shoes, wrang my socks, trousers, and various other garments out, whilst the emmersion heater was warming up enough hot water to get in the bath. I was riding an all steel,pre-war tandem,my 8 year old daughter was NOT stoking, and fully loaded with camping kit. I know I couldn't do it today Cheers, Pete.
