Anyone had experiences of taking their cycle on an aeroplane, tips, suggestions, things to watch out for. Flight booked now looking at carry bag or hard case.

When I flew my own airplane, I used to stick my bike in the back seat, or in the baggage compartment. I have friends who have traveled on airlines with their bike. They say a hard case is a must and some disassembly is required; remember your tools. A bent part can ruin your trip; so some have suggested buying a new bike at your destination, and then having the bike shop ship it to your home. If you were to buy a ratty old bike, on your last day, you can donate it to a thrift shop. Cheers Jim

Here, of all things, on Craig's List, there has been a seller who rents one of those hard bike cases, maybe he has a few of them. That might be the way to go. So, in short, see if anyone might rent them, a bike shop or whatever.
