Just finished a monster strip, clean, fettle, align, grease, polish of my beloved Sebring which, was given to me by an amazingly kind friend who lives in Minnesota. Apart from the saddle which is very comfy the bike is totally original right down to the bar tape and IRC tyres (I love IRC tyres!). These early Sebrings were mostly sold to the Americans. My friend Dave gave me this bike when he heard about the theft of my treasured Sebring (my first ever Viscount) back in the early 1980s. There's a lot of emotion wrapped up in this bike. It's the two wheeled equivalent of Bagpuss (ask yer mum) and I love it! Saddle and bar tape colour restored with liquid shoe polish! Green label on the tyres - that'll be IRC then! Ben, I lined them up with the valves (unlike the factory ) Gold lug lining on a quality Taiwanese made frame Classic rear Shimano centre pull - strong as an ox and lovely castings Headset was made by Viscount at the Bilston factory Normandy rear hub - symptomatic of perennial parts supply problems at the factory (most Sebrings had Shimano). Wheel dish was MILES out (again) Shimano 600/50, KKT self levelling pedals and SR chainset - what's not to like? Ahhh, that's better - a Shimano hub yesterday This bike has destroyed me hands. I've never done so much cleaning and polishing! I can now open an Oyster with two fingers... What a great ride too. Smooth, comfy, safe and stable. Perfect for a sunny summer's ride. Despite bar mounted levers the gear change is nice and slick. Cheers Steve

So, those decals are also original? They certainly held up and look as colourful as those ones from Velocals.

Wow! Wow! Wow! Bargain. Same spec. as mine.
If you get a chance, buy it! You will not regret it.
Does any other bike give so much for so little?

Steve, you've done a beautiful job on that Sebring. Let me know if you'd like an original 'quilted' plastic saddle for it, though you'll need a tough backside to ride it very far!
While they might be the lower specification, heavier, relations of the Aerospace models, there is still something very enjoyable about the Sebring. Like you, I have some very fond memories tied up with mine, though I don't have your determination or patience to maintain its originality. Yours is just as my UK-bought one was 40 years ago, but it had suffered a lot of abuse before I rebuilt it to take part in last year's Eroica Britannia and DFR4.

Yeah, I'd love an original quilted saddle thanks (even though it WILL be an eye watering experience!). That's very kind of you to mention it. How much including P&P? I took the brutal 'quilted' saddle off my Sebring back in the day too. I also put on a 14-34 Shimano freewheel, Shimano Tourney GS RD, SR quill pedals, Bluemells mudguards, comfier saddle and Christophe toe clips/straps. Armed with a Carradice saddlebag I went everywhere on it. I really wanted an Aerospace Sport at the time but my parents couldn't stretch to it. Still, within minutes of riding my Sebring I was hooked and forgot all about those fancy Sports (until they returned with a vengeance many years later!). Here are scans of some slides of my then new Sebring taken in December 1978 with its massive Ever Ready front light (happy times! We even got snow in those days): After its mods and a replacement frame (the seat tube snapped just above the BB within weeks of getting the bike ): Cheers Steve
