Hello all, I am new to the forum and had just recently purchased at 70s viscount! I think it is the aerospace gp, not a bad buy in my opinion. I am looking to get some good use out of it, any suggestions on what I should do as far as maintenance is concerned. I took it out for a decent spin Last night and I noticed several things. One my bb was squeaking when I was peadaling hard. Two, I am having a difficult time shifting smoothly and having it stay in the gear I am putting it in, I had tightened up the shifters but it still won't hold. Again, just trying to learn all I can, thanks again! Tell me what you thinkcontent://media/external/file/58265 Sorry if the picture didn't post correctly will fix later

Welcome to the forum - and sorry it's a belated welcome.
Creaking from the BB sounds like it may need lubricating/re-greasing. Depending on your level of experience with bikes it may be something you can do yourself, or if you don't cherish the thought of dismantling and re-assembling the BB assembly, a local bike shop should be able to sort it for you.
As for the gear selection problem, if it's a 10-speed bike you could try swapping the friction discs from one side to the other. Make a written note of the order in which the parts come off, then you won't be umm-ing and ahh-ing about which part goes on first when you're putting it back together.
Also if it's one of the fillet-brazed frames (without lugs), the frame can flex to quite a degree, and this pulls on a dry cable especially when pedalling hard, so make sure that the cable guide and the cable itself are oiled in the vicinity of the BB.
I have this very same problem on my International.
Hope this helps.

Welcome! I'm also a proud owner of an Aerospace Gran Prix, and mine has had it's share of creaks and noises. Creaking sounds when pedaling can be from the pedals, in which case tighten them firmly into the cranks; crank arms that are starting to come loose on the spindle also frequently creak, those, too, should be tightened firmly. Be careful when tightening Viscount bolts - others on this forum, with far more knowledge than I, have indicated that those bolts were sometimes prone to breaking under torque loads and removing a broken bolt from a spindle is a beast.
If yours has a threaded bottom bracket, that is your most likely culprit, as sprokit pointed out. If you have a pressed fit BB, those are less likely to develop creaks - all of the ones I have or have seen stay in place until some serious force is applied.
With your shifting problems, sprokit's advice would be well taken. My shifting improved when I started using modern slick cables and housings. Jagwire are common around here, but all the brands seem to be about the same.
Good luck. Frank

Interesting and sounds appropriate to the technical section but with only 2 posts, the poster might lose sight as to what part of the forum his original questions are to be found in.

Those handlebar bags, looks like most everyone has them, are great!
