1) Its blue - with some scratches........... Best paint match?
2) Decals are pretty tatty .............. do I leave them, remove them or replace them......... can I get them if I need them? (I haven't seen "sport" decals)
3) Frame number is 564079 ............ can anyone decipher this into a production date?
4) Gears need adjusting - new cables recently fitted ....... Tourney 65 rear, front marked Shimano 50, skip tooth 1st and 2nd.......................... any foibles in setting up?
5) Seat post moves and has enough adjustment for leg length........ hard plastic saddle will be replaced by something more comfortable.
6) Handlebar stem moves, but at highest is still too low for me..........(ideally need 3" more) I don't want to fit a modern one if i can help - suggestions...........?
7) Brake levers with auxiliary, no hoods, new cables - work ok - but they don't look as old as the rest of the bike........ any distinguishing marks on the originals? where to get hoods?
8) Full length black plastic mudgards fitted, - leave? remove? or fit shortie alloy - would look better but give less protection........ were they fitted with any as standard when new?
9) Tyres are cracking on the sidewalls but the tread is as new................... risk it? or change now........... if so what treaded tyres work well?
10) Pedals are showing a little rust but spin freely, marked KKT RT SF.
fitted with black clips (ugly........ may change for steel - but at my
cadence they will not be needed.)
11) Wheel bearings and bottom bracket - no play or noises seem to be ok.
12) Newly fitted chrome forks.
My initial thoughts
a) Bars - I'm thinking of using foam grips covered in tape - I have huge hands and have had operations on both for arthritis.
b) Saddle - Brooks B17 Tan - I have this already - but it looks a little "new"
c) Fit a Carradice of Karrimor saddle bag - I don't want to put a rack for panniers on this one................ or do I?
Well that about it for the first impression!
What is the collective opinion on this?

and keep it as light as possible with no mudguards and just a tiny under seat bag for spare tube.
