Who would fancy seeing out the summer down (up for Stoatie) here in Devon? Sun? Sea? Sand? Cider?
I've recently found a great campsite near me that could suit us very well - not the cheapest at around £15 per night but nice - not made any other enquiries yet but I was there for a fairly large party with everyone camping (and drinking) in the orchard.
I thought perhaps the 23rd - 25th Oct 2015 (25th is end of BST).
Who's game?

Possibly, but I'd need to check what else I'm upto. Can't do that for a fortnight as I'm dog sitting. Hopefully I'll get a few rides in on my Aerospace Pro which is stored here. Cheers, Pete.

Cool. Obviously it doest have to be that date or venue even (this one by the way . Yes, get out and enjoy your Pro. Sadly mine has now become my spare as I'm enjoying riding the Sport much more. It's also proved that my Pro is far too big for me. **whisper** I may have to get another one.

Sounds like a possible plan, obviously finalise things closer to time. I know I've got a wedding to go to in October but I can't remember exactly when

Hi all, has there been any update on this? Is there enough interest to get a DFR 3.5 gathering. Depending on the weekend chosen & if the missus can get the time off I would look to try and get there.

I'm afraid I couldn't get out to the SW. I've been wondering about the possibility of a DFR* for those in London & the SE (& anyone else that could make it of course). I was thinking about either along the River, perhaps starting / finishing with Richmond Park (which is about 7 miles all round, including some inclines), or in and around the Lee Valley regional park, some of which I know slightly as I was brung up in Norf London (Enfield). Have you been out there Stella?

Could SW members get up to London?
I would be more likely to go if it were , as it would be 'two birds with one stone'.
Sounds fun to me!

Within the Lee Valley Park, I thought that this ride looks quite good. At 16 miles it is the longest of the featured rides. I could extend it a bit using some local knowledge and take in a pub, if anyone could bear that. As you can see it is very near the M25 so good for transport and there are a couple or more camp/caravan sites in the Lee Valley. Downside might be that everywhere is very flat, but even so the cycle paths are unlikely to be suitable for high speeds. If this looks interesting, I could find out more.

If this was looking likely and I was going, would I be able to get a bike there from central London on available public transport , do you know?

Enfield Lock and Broxbourne stations are well served by trains from Liverpool Street and Stratford. Broxbourne is a mainline station (not sure about Enfield Lock) and there are connexions to Aberdeen, Newcastle, Manchester and all points north. The line from Kings Cross to Cambridge goes through Enfield and fairly close (Crews Hill).

PS the trains I recall on these routes were diesel multiple units (DMUs) - ie no guard's vans. But presumably at weekends bikes can be taken in to the carriages? Incidentally, the line from Enfield Town (a terminus, further away but only by a few miles) to Liverpool Street was at one time the most intensively worked lines in the country. Special powerful 0-10-0 tank locomotives called Decapods were made to accelerate the trains quickly between stations.

I don't think I could manage to get away anywhere myself tbh. The ride here could be any distance but circa 20miles could easily incorporate a conservative 7 - 10 pubs to keep Pete fueled up!!
I'm surprised there's no comment from Stella - I seem to remember seeing she's got weekends off!!
No worries if others would rather go to the SE. If only one or two fancied making the journey here there'd be no need for camping as you could just crash here - there's still space in the dining room for another couple of Viscounts!!

Hi, all, and thank you, Lewis, for point this out to me. First of all: I'm well up for it. Of course, I am! I've asked my boss and he mentioned something about a camp site in Essendon, Hertfordshire. Will need to investigate. As you know I'm not really a camper or familiar with camp sites, but I can check a few around here.
Sorry, I haven't been around a lot, which is due to being busy working, then boxing, and weekends off (until end of this month!), so I'm out there, exploring the seasides of the south east, on my GP, making the most of the last summery days, until it's back to routine. I'm still the Viscountess, showing off the Viscounts where- and whenever I can. :-)

I hadn't responded to Lewis's invitation to 'Go West' (sorry) as I have to be in Keyworth, Notts by 6:00 pm on Saturday 24th October. I might be able to join a DFR 3.x ride in Herts that day though, if you don't mind me disappearing soon after lunch. It would give me a deadline to finish building the wheels for my Victor. Is anyone planning to camp on Friday night? Rob

Looks promising Stella. For those travelling by rail, there are nearby stations - Hertford North and Hertford East. It's not far from the Lee Valley Park (7km?) and from the campsite it would be easy to link up with the rides in the Park.

Tried to get in touch with them, but no success so far. Always answer phone. Next time I'll leave a message. Was trying to find a link to an e-mail address, but no luck. Will keep trying as it seems a good site, good prices, and very close to Lea Valley or other quiet county lanes. (Been told the latter by someone who guides rides around there.)

If we can get this camp site I think we can easily work out a suitable route (with pub(s), Pete). We also need to confirm a date. Would it be the same as the DFR (West Country), for solidarity, or the next day, to give people the possibility of doing both? Could we begin to collect numbers?

It looks like we can just go ahead and book once we've decided. I'll try again tomorrow. The answer phone gives a number you can call. Shall get back with update.

Finally got in touch with them. Seems a bit difficult as people with camper vans/mobile homes who need electric hook ups need to book at least two nights. It's a club site, not privately owned, and therefore anyone has to obey by the club's rules. We may not be able to stay together, everyone has to be at least 6 metres apart, etc. plus it's mid-season with school holidays end of October. Not sure, really, what to do. I feel like it's getting a bit late to organise things. Which is partly down to my not getting through to them. Who is up for it in the first place? And what about the date? Maybe we can just find a B&B?

I'll be very happy to visit the Lea Valley for the day on either Saturday 24th or Sunday 25th. I assume that we won't be riding out at the crack of dawn.
