Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle. 1st August 2015. Selected roads between Leadenhall and Green Park closed to motorised traffic from 9:00am - 4:00pm. No charge to register to take part. Not really an Audax/TT/Sportive, but a chance to ride some of the famous streets of our fair capital city without the accompaniment of trucks, buses, taxis etc. Includes an 8-mile circuit that takes in the Strand, Aldwych, Lincoln's Inn Fields, Embankment, Buckingham Palace, St Paul's Cathedral and Waterloo Bridge with lots of cycle-related entertainment and purchasing opportunities (and beer ). I'll be there to see if my brother-in-law can retain his Sprint Champion (>50yrs) crown at the Brompton World Championships (5:00pm) up the finishing straight on The Mall. If anyone fancies making a day out of it, we could get some Great British 'heritage' photos of Viscounts in front of famous landmarks to share with triitout, 54roadie, bendo and the rest of our international brethren. Based on good progress yesterday, I should have the Victor running nicely by the end of next week. What a hoot it is to ride! I can't help singing ' raindrops keep falling on my head' as I ride it. (Though the headset feels a bit too loose to ask Mrs robt to sit on the handlebars like Katharine Ross!).

Cusqueno has already volunteered to marshall the ride in from Hammersmith, and suggests we meet up at some prearranged point & time:
Cusqueno's route into town, taken from the website: Route: Hammersmith to Green Park (Constitution Hill) Start point: Brook Green, Dunsany Road Junction, Hammersmith W14 0JR End point: Green Park (Constitution Hill) Start time: 10:30 Distance: 5 miles Return ride start point: Green Park (Constitution Hill) Return ride start time: 15:00
How about we plan to meet at 11:30 at Constitution Hill in Green Park? As per DFR3, we could allow 30 minutes to assemble, chat, check for spare tubes, puncture repair kits & pumps (for me anyway), and then spend a couple of hours exploring London, getting John back in time for his 1500 departure to Hammersmith? An 1130ish start should allow people from 'out of town' to get a cheap day return on the train. A examples, an advance return ticket Burton-on-Trent <=> Euston via Tamworth can be yours from £32.00, but you'd need to be up quite early, Jem! Off peak (nearly anytime on a Saturday) day return tickets from Milton Keynes are from £15.50.
I'll be happy to share my mobile phone details for emergencies, delayed arrivals etc.

Rob - I am away in the van and although our plans are very fluid, I can't make it down to London on 1st Aug.
That does sound great and I would have loved to cycled around London without traffic.
I will be in London for a few days but towards the end of August.
Hope you get some photos to share!

No worries, Jem. I hope you have a good trip wherever you are heading.
After a weekend of fettling the Victor to make it rideable, I have taken the polishing cloth to the Grand Sport this evening. Just the front wheel so far, but it's shining up very nicely. I'm not sure I'll get it up to Whippet's standards, but it's looking good so far. Thanks again. Rob.

If previous years are anything to go by, Green Park will be a scene of slightly organised chaos. There may be a signed meeting point. If so, I suggest we head for that. My mobile number is 075-8052-0667

Thanks for the pics and your company today, John. Hope the ride home was a bit quicker.
Great news - the top of the bell I bought in the Condor shop is a perfect replacement for the 40-year old top I lost from my Grand Sport on the way to DFR3, so it's glory is restored. So chuffed by these little things.
Hope Scott and Marco's trip back up North went well - thanks for the beer!
The Brompton World Championships was a hard fought race. My Brother in Law was beaten in the over 50s sprint for the finish line, but a good day out.
I hope tomorrow's 100 goes well for Whippet, that Pete's show was a success and that Mr & Mrs Sooper8 are having a lovely holiday.

Walking to a shop for supplies this morning, I think just before 10:00, I saw a group of cyclists heading back into London very fast. I assume part of the professional peloton. Returning from the shop another group, I think going slightly slower, were also heading for home. When did Whippet pass by? I looked carefully at the second group but didn't see any horizontal top tubes. Here is a bit of frivolity from the Freeride yesterday - a Mexican band on a quadricycle in Trafalgar Square. Also Marco with Scott's Wilier - I forgot to add this yesterday with the other happy people.

Nice slack head angle on the Wilier. Looks like you had a good day for it. Managed to raise more money for BLESMA,the charity for service men who have lost limbs in the course of their duty. Total this year, including the soap box derby is approx £2700,with £500 going to MacMillan. Worth putting a bit of my effort in! I'll try to get some photos on of some of the cars attending. All giving their time and vehicles for free. Cheers, Pete.

RideLondon 100 Sportive was fun. I won't post a picture as I was on the Mercian. Averaged 15.8 mph which although not fast, is good going for me over 100 miles.

Century rides are always special and it sounds like this had all of the atmosphere to help the miles fly by and none of the boredom. Congratulation Kev!

A couple of shots here from Trafagar Square and Buckingham Palace. I couldn't get the St Paul's Cathedral pic to load, but will try again when I get back from my hols.
