It was one of those rainy early morning wake ups with the thought, "Should I stay or should I go???". The remnants of a tropical storm were clearing out just a bit ahead of schedule so I decided to race this morning. A perfect day and course for the Viscount. Wet and long straightaways for 70% of the course with minimal shifting. The #1 big gun in my age group doesn't show and I placed 3rd out of 8 in the 60-64 geezer jock age group! What makes this one special is that I did it on the Viscount. My bike split was only 2 minutes slower than last year when it was dry and I rode my carbon Trek so I consider that very good indeed. The bike did get some admiring looks from those who've never seen steel and down tube shifters at a triathlon. Ended up that the bike leg was my best overall event of the day. Excellent way to start Father's Day! The sponsor promised some photos for download so I hope there are some good ones to post on the bike. I think this is 54roadie's 24 hour event weekend. Looking forward to his story. jms.racetecresults.com/MyResults.aspx?CId=16370&RId=145&EId=1&AId=126016

Great stuff Michael, the riders behind must be wondering why they spent so much on carbon tri bikes :-) Sounds likes you're certainly starting the season in good shape.

Well done! I love that you're taking steel into competition. Want to see pics when they're up.

I'm in awe! If I'd run ten minutes, I'd be ready to go home. Swimming and cycling is fine, but running? Nah, can't do that. I don't know how many miles and that as I have no idea bout triathlons, but it sounds draining. Well done, mate.

I must admit it gives me great satisfaction when racing my Viscount, to know that you guys, aka "Team Viscount" are so supportive of these endeavors The small, local races are as close as I get to what you guys experience at the DFR meet ups. Comradary, fun, and a good day of exercise! I can see all of you, Pete, Frank, Kevin and of course, Stella all being able to take on a short sprint race and loving it. Wetsuits are like giant floaties and make the swim (assuming you pick a nice gentle lake!) the easiest part of the race when it comes to effort. Racing on a Viscount....priceless! Running.....any of you are capable of covering 3 miles even if it's a walk/shuffle/jog. You'd be surprised how easy you can go and just enjoy completing the event! Pete, with your soapbox derby racing and great sense of the absurd, you have just the right mindset to take up the challenge Frank, you my friend are simply a beast so a sprint tri would probably be too easy for you Kevin, you're already a racer. Just add in swim and run, mix well and go for it Stella, you have even found your way into boxing and as far as I can tell, re-invented your whole life! Perfect triathlete material Seriously, the sport is a great way to work all parts of the body and engage the mind. I've been at it for a long time and every time is like a first time. It doesn't get old. Who's signing up?

Michael, your flattery will get you nowhere with me. Running and biking are quite enough, but thank you for the offer. Those are great shots, I see you went with aero brake levers and kept the Viscount centerpull calipers. Bold move! If you have to set your stem any lower I think you'll really crowd the cable routing and might have to go with the old school clothesline style. No clip on extensions? Love that jersey, too. Great job! Best regards and highest respect, Frank

Bendo, how did I mess up and not tri and draft you into this addictive sport. I somehow remember you saying the Bolshevik in you would like to show up the carbon boys, so lets go! Next to the US, you are in the mecca of all things tri so I'm sure you can find something . Even easier, put together a team and just do the bike on the Sport or even better, the Victor. Go b

Thanks for the kind words Michael.Unfotunately,my arthritic hips and shoulders prevent me from running and swimming these days. I therefore am following the British tradition of only doing sports that I can sit down! I'll leave the masochistic stuff to others. Keep up the good work. Cheers, Pete.

Well, we have the triathlon in Hyde Park, which I find rather funny, to be honest, but people seem to take that seriously. Personally, I think I'd stick to boxing and riding (at my own pace) or swimming for leisure. :-) Running just ain't my forte. Wanted to take it up again, but never get round to it. Might try when it gets colder again.

Unfortunately Michael, I have to remind you of rule 42 :-) www.velominati.com/the-rules/That said, I did a couple of sprint triathlons about 10 years ago. They were great fun and the other competitors were very supportive. Might give it another go.
