Just thinking ahead here.
I know we have Sprockit, Scott, RMW, Stevevw, and myself at this - who else is going? It would be good to meet up
If people have my mobile from DFR2 then feel free to contact me. I will be in the campervan field from Fri evening.

my wife I have done two 55 milers in training the last two weekends on the viscounts, last weekend it was tough as it rained all ride.Maximum elevation 600 ft. I was told that the first 10 miles was tough in Derby. Lesley just said to me "I wish you would not have shown me the terrain graphic."

To be honest ,, If I might swear by mentioning another group. Last year , The Guv'nors did the middle distance mostly on three speed Sturmey Archer hubs with no ill effects . So a light weight racer should cope well , I have taken 'Biscuite' out a few times and have been amazed at how light and nimble she rides !
Kindest Regards

Yeah but even the name 'The Guv'nors' sounds hard. I can imagine the thighs as thick as tree trunks on 'em. I bet they rode up 100 miles overnight, napped in a ditch for 20 mins, then did Eroica, jogged up to the pub and drank all night and woke at dawn to go and look for a dust cap they lost 50 miles back.

By the look of those profiles I'll need to take a run at those hills! I have been practising though - here's my Sprint at the top of Cragg Vale, 'the longest continuous climb in England' - 975-ish feet of altitude gain over 5 1/2 unrelenting uphill miles (8 kilometres). It's not very steep, just long. During the mid part of Stage 2 of the Tour de France last year, David Lopez of Team Sky romped up here in 17 minutes - by way of comparison, a couple of weeks ago I breezed up in, er, 40!!!

I got round the long route last year and intend to do so again. Be nice to do it in under 11 hours but I think more training would have been in order to achieve that....

I did the long route last year and intend to go for it again this year. If it takes less than eleven and a half hours it's a PB.

Great event. very tough ride as Pete said. Saw Jem , Scott , rmw, Stevevw, another past me and wife on a blue lugged bike and said , no Viscounts then three in a row not sure who it was. Guy in tent oppersite had a Pro as well . Chuffed to be picked in the top few bikes in the show and shine with the GP in non restored category, usually Hetchins, Bates, Holdsworth, Conargo , Major Nichols, lattterly Raleigh domain. Sue our friends Evans got there as well . The terrain on the ridewas mad. hill after hill , then scary downhill on gravel. I pushed as well had to. lots of people were asking about Viscounts (i had one of them or i have got one of them) and the bottom brackets. I pointed them to all our web places. If you ever get the chance this is the second best Event after the Death Fork , check it out if you can even if its for the day. Ray

There were some great photo's to be had but I didn't get my camera phone out much at all. Partly afraid to take a hand off the bars down the white stone paths (saw a couple of nasty head injuries) I took about half a dozen. Here are some that I Instagramed Camera Roll-94 by Sooper 8, on Flickr Camera Roll-93 by Sooper 8, on Flickr Camera Roll-91 by Sooper 8, on Flickr

Awesome weekend guys, my legs are still complaining about all those hills. Sooper, I think I'm in your first photo just above the reeds in the pond at the back plus I hit that ford full pelt on the big ring. I had no idea it was coming, ha ha. I didn't see nearly enough Viscounts though!!
I'll be checking out my photos and GoPro footage tonight. I'll post up the good stuff when I get a chance.

What an amazing event, in a wonderful setting - and so well organised. Expensive admittedly, but well worth trying at least once. Good to see Scott and the gang, Sooper8 and his wife, and a brief encounter with Foss. Sorry to miss everyone else - sometimes ya see 'em, sometimes ya miss 'em - but there's DFR3 coming up . . . Eroica is billed as 'a cycling adventure', and that it certainly was - trails through tunnels, stunning scenery, challenges uphill and downhill (especially the Cromford Inclined Plane!). There were signs of riders' altercations with the scenery, and a couple of nasty looking nose and head injuries, but getting safely down a 1-in-8 gravel and earth path is all part of the challenge - and one Viscount rider managed it safely with only his front brake operational - respect!! A special well done to rmw, who took on the 100-mile route - even more respect! I quite enjoyed the long drag up out of Miller's Dale - but I do live amongst the hills between Manchester and Leeds, so there are climbs-a-plenty in this part of the world, and every time I cycle out of town I ride uphill to come back down, or downhill to come back up.It's possible around here to climb 1000 feet (320 metres approximately) of altitude in less than one mile.I also enjoyed the long smooth descent down to the first food stop at Hartington. I'm just glad we weren't riding the Eroica course in the opposite direction! I loved the tandem with the picnic hamper on the back, but never did find out what flavour the butties were that I was threatening to pinch! Special thanks to Sooper8 for his company on the ride. I didn't take many pictures, but here are a few: Sooper8 (left), and Sprockit Sooper8 on the 'white roads of Derbyshire' Yes, there is a Viscount in this picture - just above the last bend before the horizon! Attending to a Viscount with a puncture All-in-all a fantastic weekend, an event with a special atmosphere - perhaps the spirit of the 'bicycle adventure'.

WOW! That looks to be both oodles of fun and very heroic indeed. Please tell me, while riding through that "ford" were feet and pedals below water, or only rims and tires? I do see cobbles beneath the water, correct? That must be one tricky, slippery stretch of road. Those "white roads"? You guys are TOUGH!
this is now on my bucket list.
Congratulations to all!

Frank,
Yes, you see cobbles beneath the water, and pedals didn't dip into it.
Fortunately the line was straight, with tarmac on both the entry and exit - so just a case of hold it straight and keep going!

My goodness, those look like roads for mountain bikes. Very cool and impressive and as Frank said "heroic". Can't imagine doing that on a road bike. Cheers to you guys! Thanks for sharing all those great photos.
Jem, love the KP Crisp / Viscount cycling cap. Did you get those made up custom???

No PB, but got round the 100 miles OK, rain and headwind but no fords. With my friend on his Mercian and his 15 year old daughter on a peugot. Did yousee the Tony Doyle Viscount, signed by TD himself? I urged the guy with it to get in touch with this forum, as he is looking to sell it. It came in to the bicycle recycle project he runs, so when he sells it is the project that benefits.

rmw: It looks like you have an Ideale saddle. Am I right? Jem: Your handlebar bag has piqued my interest. Do tell. What a great looking event. I would have a hard time taking my eyes off all the bikes long enough to ride. b

I can never remember..but something like that) A bit heavy but doesn't rattle and can carry loads of things in it. I liked the colour as it matched my bikes Deore decals.

I spoke to him too and he told me the Tony Doyle story.
