If you are intending to come to this event on 11th July, can you please let me have the following info in order to help me with the booking of a camp site.
1) Are you staying over Friday/Saturday night or both? 2)Tent, motorhome or camping pod (posh hut)?

Sorry, I'm going to be completely useless on this one. I hope to be at DFR3, as I was at the first two, but I haven't broached it with the domestic authorities yet. I suspect it will end up with me driving up and back on the same day (so, all else being equal, the further south, the better for me). Depending on exactly where it is, staying one or other night at Sheffield or Nottingham might be an option, to break up the driving.
So, on balance, probably arriving and leaving on Saturday by car. I would like to camp though ...

Jem, if you'd be willing to lend me your tent again, I'd be there from Saturday to Sunday.

I am also subject to say-so of rest of family. Saturday night. Either tent or posh pod (saves carrying tent and gear) - depends if coming by train or motor vehicle.

Forestside Farm site would give exclusive use of site at this point (they would quote a price if we give them numbers asap).
I suppose not enough are coming on Friday to warrant the whole weekend booking, but possibly Saturday night and use of the site for basing the ride from/to on Saturday? It is a great site and I've been there a few times just to sit and admire the view. Great showers and toilets, electric hook up, tents are no problem, and 2 camping pods.
However, it's not close to Lichfield station (well, not in terms of riding to and from it, unless you call an hour and half ride a mere trifle?) but only a handful of miles further than last year if you are coming from south.
So - any strong views against exploring this idea, and getting price please shout up.

Sounds good to me, I'm sure lifts could be arranged for people arriving by train.

Not much effort at all Pete... As it stands we have
Fri - 4 tents 1 van Sat - 5 tents 2 vans (with potential for your tent to be a van)
and still waiting to hear back from Raymondo and Lewis. Also, just posted up on CTC and might get a couple from there. Then our mutual friend who drinks at your pub hasn't replied to my text, so if you see him give him a reminder if you don't mind Pete.

Location is fine, can be ridden from Derby or get train to Hatton and ride from there. I will speak to family about being allowed out the whole weekend!

Count me in as under canvas provisionally for Fri/Sat and a definite for Sat/Sun. I've given the camp site the best estimate for numbers as it stands at this moment. I hope that if the price is ok, then we can have exclusive use. This would mean that they wouldn't have any issues with too many tents and cars parking on Saturday during the ride. They normally don't crowd the site even though they could fit plenty more on. This would allow a few late comers to camp if they wanted and hadn't booked in advance. I really hope it comes off as i've been there before and even I am excited about the site/facilities and surrounding countryside - I doubt anyone will be disappointed with this. Also, for Kev, there is the steepest ( and fairly long) hill for miles around, just out of the farm gate. I must admit, it's the sort of hill that I would get off and push- Who's up for a hill challenge? (I'm sure I can find a mini trophy )

How about a barrel of beer at the top of the hill? I'm sure we'd all make it :-)

Kevin and Pete: Hahahahahaha! It's all about the beer, innit? Mind, I'm in. If I'm not too tired I might even give that hill a go ...

The camp site is about a third of the way up it , the 2/3rds above it become brutal. I wouldn't/couldn't ride it.

That's the 1 in 7 bit then. Fun to go down? Not the place to stress test one's death forks.

Jem, you're way fitter than me, which means, if you wouldn't do it, I shouldn't even entertain the thought. :-D

Could be time for a set-up like that 90+ year old cyclist had, someone posted on here, with a chain wheel smaller than the largest cog.

That would be my post John. Just reading about this hill is making my lactic acid burn even on this side of the Atlantic! Better get back to work before I get caught.

If this venue isn't near a pub, I'm serious about bringing a barrel if that'll help maintain the DFR ambiance. I also have a 3m x 4.5 awning we could use. All we'd need to do is sort out the food.
