I was in Italy last year when l'Eroica was on and regretted not taking a look as it seemed like a nice celebration of vintage steel framed bikes. Lo' and behold , I now see that they are doing a 'uk version' right on my door step in 2014.Link hereI'm keeping an open mind at the moment and might go along. I'd love to see a load of vintage bikes on the road! (vintage here meaning pre '87 )

I might be up for that Jem, I've pre-registered. £70 is a bit of a rip off but might be OK if £70 includes the motorhome camping.

Must admit I didn't properly read the small print. I saw £55 and wasn't totally put off by that but I did wonder to myself what I might get for my money? - after all, it's not far from here and I can ride around for free. Maybe at each station you get a local cheese and half a warm beer? Then I realised £55 was a reduced fee for first 500 and after that it was £70. In my opinion a bit steep. Someone somewhere must be making more than is really necessary. I am however, interested in the vintage bikes and chatting to folk. If it included camping fees in Bakewell then I'll probably go. The web site isn't very clear on specifics is it?

Pretty sure I read it includes camping for 3 nights, wonder if they'll feel the same about a motorhome with hook up? Says that covers the whole 3 day event but I very much doubt Gillian could stand it for that long. In all honesty, we could arrange a Viscount ride out that would be much better and cheaper. I'd quite fancy sorting a ride for those who'd like to do something a bit longer / faster than the last one, but then with a BBQ or pub evening afterwards.

Maybe we could have a route that allows for a few distances and then a big meet up at the end? I also think that it's not too far ahead to put a date in the diary- then it gives plenty of warning for everyone and longer to publicise it

My Gillian (16 year old daughter) said she'd be up for it if there's Wi-Fi! I've got my nice 21 1/2" almost new GP ready for her but alas she informs me she has retired from cycling. I tried.

I feel very lucky and proud that my 19 yr old son comes out on his 'Pro with me and went to the Death Fork Rally, but "is there any good wi-fi" seems to be one of his criteria for almost any visit out of the house these days...

Amazingly, I managed to get permission to vanish off to Derbyshire for three days, and I am booked. I put my name down for 100miles, which was a bit silly. I can manage 100 miles, but 100 very hilly miles is something else. They let you change, so I will either do a lot of training or opt for the 50. I will have to get different brake levers though, as you are not allowed any concealed cables. I'll be camping in my teeny weeny 'Ultimate Tramp' tent, same one I had a York Rally in 1982 when I rode there from Edinburgh. Actually, it is a two person tent, so quite roomy for one, but not high enough to sit up in.

I should be signed up - I've only been to Tuscany once, but the one thought I came back with was "It's like the Peaks - they should do a BRitish l'Eroica there!" - but I'm feeling strangely unenthusiastic about it. I think it's the boys from Nonna's superb Italian restaurant in Sheffield who are behind it, so I've got no real excuse. Talk me into it! It sounds like a great idea and when it comes down to it, I think it might just be fear that my legs are not up to the challenge which is stopping me from putting my name down...
