Hi all. My first bike refurb was an Ammaco Tony Doyle and, by coincidence, I have just got a Viscount Tony Doyle.
I want to keep to as 'original' as possible, but unfortunately the frame is in a state, so I am going to get it sprayed and recreate the decals (I'm a Graphic Designer). I'm sure it will cost me more than it will ever be worth!
However, I'm not sure how original the rest of the parts are. It has no front derailleur, so is just a 5 speed - does that sound right? I guess I need to check the dropout spacing to see if I can get a 6 or 7 speed cassette in there?
The wheels and brakes are good, so I'll replace all of the cables and cable housings, tubes and tyres, brake pads.
I have a couple of nice spare seats which are black - Will I be done by the colour police if I use red tape or should I stick with black to match the seat?
I'm new to this so any comments, suggestions (or even encouragement!) would be appreciated.
Can I upload pics on here?

Hi - welcome to the Viscount and Lambert forum.
You can only upload photos that are hosted elsewhere (and then embedded on here - we ran out of space).
I think somewhere , a member called Cusqueno has the spec sheets either posted up here or in a link on his flickr account. If you search Flickr for Viscount Owners Groups, I think there might be a Tony Doyle Spec sheet, but might be mistaken.
Good luck with it, and well done for keeping it alive.

I can't find any spec sheet for the Tony Doyle. I did own one briefly but cleaned it and flipped it. It was a ten speed with Tourney RD and brakes if I recall correctly. A mid range bike with the frame made in England but not an Aerospace. Late 70s I think. I believe there was also a post 1980 version that was at the same level but a bit different. Pretty sure that TD bikes were all ten speeds originally.

One of the earlier embodiments of the Tony Doyle model had red cable outers and a red saddle, with a white (signed) frame.

Thank you for your feedback, I have set up a public post on my Facebook page with pics of what I am working with. /?d=n I think I’ll keep the 5 gears and brakes as they are and concentrate on making it look and ride as good as possible. I have the original seat but it’s plastic and not very comfortable. I’ll use red cable housing and then decide on the tape colour at the end. The wheels are 27 inch so my options are limited. I was hoping to find white walls, but it may have to be gum. This is what I did with the last one, it’s my first so forgive me if I’ve made any schoolboy errors! /?d=n

I think the red cables compliment the Ammaco decal, Andy.
Good to hear someone else has been refurbishing old bikes through Lockdown too.

Thank you all for your help. The frame is in being powder coated while I clean up the other parts and produce the decals.
I'll post some pics when it's finished.
