Hello all,
I thought I'd register and say hello as I've just made an unplanned jump into Viscount territory. We've just bought an Aerospace Deore AX18 mixte frame bike for my wife to ride. We'd been looking for a suitable 'classic' road bike (because they're relatively simple to work on and fix) and this was close to home and seemed a reasonable price. Knowing nothing about Viscounts (I'm riding my Dad's 1983 Claud Butler), I discovered this forum and have been reading up on our new acquisition. It appears to be pretty original and well cared for when it was in use, but obviously unused for some time. When the weather improves (Welsh monsoon here at the moment) I'll try and post a photo or two before getting too involved in a little refurbishment.
All the best,
Jim

Welcome Jim! Look forward to seeing the pics, got a soft spot for Mixte frames and Viscount models are quite rare. There’s a lot of knowledgeable posters here but traffic is slow, so be patient it’s worth the wait

Thanks Franco, Slow traffic is fine - I-m not a chatterbox myself. Not sure if this will work, but can anyone see this pic? share.icloud.com/photos/0Qmvb_X_USd-65Q9iNq6ugGsg. She awaiting a wash, hence my lack of concern about the rain. I've temporarily put a slightly more female-friendly saddle on and taken the clips off the pedals while my wife gets used to the bike. The plan is a little refurbishment to a useable bike rather than a restoration - pink bar tape has been ordered! Does anyone know of a colour code for the paint? My local motor factors couldn't match it and there's not enough flat area for their spectroscope to scan. Cheers, Jim

Welcome Jim, thanks for sharing the picture. That looks superb. As you say, looking very much original, and in good condition. I am not sure if I had the exact paint number for this. I have touched mine up with something but it's years ago and can't for the life of me remember what I did or used. It might come back to me or it might be on a thread on here. The link works and it looks in good condition Jim, it might be the same model cusqueno owns so hopefully he’ll be able to tell you more about it.

Thank you sooper8, interesting to see the flat bars on one of yours. Having been riding an old MTB for years, Mrs LHJ is finding out how her neck copes with drops. I've got a suitable pair of classic 'sit-up-and-beg' bars if necessary. So far, she's been impressed at how much easier it is to pedal. As regards the paint, I think from a scanned road-test I've read, that the opal was only used on the mixte frame, and it's a different shade from blue on the gent's frame. I've uploaded the details onto the database and I could add a post to the thread on how to add photos with details of how to do it from iCloud. I'm glad that worked . Jim

Jim Hi Jim, yes, just saw your frame number 'theory' and read it with interest, very good, something in that I think. I now seem to remember that I didn't touch up my Deore's with a match colour, I think I just rubbed the rust off certain spots and then covered in a clear finish to prevent any spread. There weren't many points on the frame and I thought a bad colour match was worse than no match at all. I did a test on using an iCloud link to a photo on here - it worked but it didn't allow me to embed it, which would have been nice.
