I'm within a handful of the maximum number of photos on a free Flickr account. Is it worth paying for a Pro account (how much is it anyway)? Or just open another free one (I already have one, but that's another story) or use a different online photo storage option (I guess I could use Google Drive?)?
Appreciate your thoughts.

I don't think Google Drive will work if you want to embed the image in a post. The reason is that the link provided by Google Drive is not an image file (JPG, GIF, etc.) Instead it is a URL that Google uses to retrieve the photo and show in its own viewer. I have been struggling with this and similar issues since joining the Lambert/Viscount board. I have found that PhotoBucket produces a regular image link that can be embedded. Google Photos is similar to Google Drive. I have embedded photos directly from RideWithGPS because it provides a .JPG link.

I'd be interested in an answer to this too as I am over the limit on Flickr and don't want to pay for it as it's not the greatest interface. I used to use Photobucket but seem to recall it went over to a paid service. Is that not the case now Brian? I just asked my son, and he says Imgur might be the kind of thing that would work for us to embed here (edit - just had a quick look and visually it's awful, but it does doe what we would want)

Evidently PhotoBucket is now a paid service. I just tried logging into my account and cannot do so without subscribing. I guess I'll never know what I still have stored there. Choosing a service also involves the question of stability. If we put links into posts and then the service disappears, the photos go with it.

I agree Brian - not only here, but other forms I was a member of really suffered when Photobucket started charging. Big gaps in a thread really lessen their usefulness. Many times i have been reading what I thought was a solution to one of the many technical problems of my VWT25 Transporter, only to find the picture replaced with that dreaded place holder gap.

T25, nice!. I fondly remember my first car - a 1963 VW Bus, exactly like this one but nowhere near this condition. I bought it in 1971 but it was already worn out and hopelessly under powered, 36 HP I believe:

Wow, that really is a beauty. 36 hp though...I can't imagine how that must have been to live with. I saw a recent episode of American Pickers where a guy had collected quite a number of VW classics and one exactly like that with the 'sky light windows' but they were all sadly rotting and in pieces. I quite like the look of the new electric VW bus- they kept the classic look but somehow it's very modern. By not playing the lottery it sees my chances of owning one as being rather slim. I've been keeping the T25 alive on life support for sometime now. The coolant hoses blew on a motorway, it overheated and hasn't been the same ever since. Done everything but head gasket. The heater matrix has now gone kerput and it's the most tiresome job, taking the steering wheel and dash off to then get behind the blower motor unit to replace (and they ain't cheap for such a reasonably small item). I will get back on it in March/April time , and I don't want to give up on it but that time might be approaching Untitled by Sooper 8, on Flickr

Now we’re on the subject of VWs, I recently visitedJack’s Garage, Ladbroke Grove, London W10 ( the owner pranged my car while it was parked outside my house, but owned up and repaired it for me). Apparently it’s a well-known VW specialist. They are doing electric conversions of Beetles using kits from VW - just take along your old car and they’ll convert it for you. The owner told me they will do the same for camper vans in the future.

You might like to try Jack’s when you’re over this way again. I’ve no idea if the are cheap (probably not), but I’m pretty sure they won’t give you any bs. Just say I sent you 😃.

Regarding the 36HP motor - yes, it was terrible. Second gear up a modest grade on the highway. The oil cooler was inadequate and the valves were always getting toasted. I had two engines - the one powering the car and the most recently rebuilt one in the rear hatch. I had a block of wood exactly the right height to support the engine. I could remove the rear bumper, rear engine hatch, and bolts mounting the engine to the transaxle then roll the car away from the engine. Two people could easily lift the old engine off and the new one onto the block. Then we would roll the car back and button it up. We could do it in an hour. I never had to change the engine at the side of the road but could have if the need arose.
A friend of mine had a Sunbeam (I think) with a transverse mounted 3-cylinder 2-stroke engine. He also carried a spare engine and could swap it out himself in less than an hour. And he DID a few roadside swaps.
