Hi all,
First time Viscount owner based in London. I've wanted one for a while and picked up an Aerospace Sport 1978-79, all the Shimano and SR parts are dating from 1977. It has many original parts, I've replaced the seat with one of my old Brooks B17s and added new handlebar tape, hoping to do a full renovation this year. Can anyone recommend a London based frame painter. Frame number 104465. Aerospace Sport on FlickrStuart

Friend of mine uses Mario Vaz and I saw some of his work which looked good.....also not overpriced. Let me know if you want an introduction and I can get the details for you.

Welcome to the forum! To me, your bike looks pretty good as is. If your bike were mine, I would simply keep it as is and enjoy its' original glory. I am learning to enjoy the original, well worn, but still presentable look; once painted there is no going back. I have a Peugeot U08 project (not as nice as your bike) that I am keeping as well worn but original; it even has 40 year old (ugly) license stickers. I also have a Girardengo in well worn original that (to me) looks just right. I enjoy the contrast when compared to my restored/refurbished bikes. If curious, this link will show you my overindulged bicycle habit.
Cheers Jim

Hi Jim,
lovely collection. I do agree with you and my other bikes retain their original paint. I have a 60's Claud Butler that has faded to a lovely green and I'm restoring an early 60's F H Scott of Ealing dragon which I am leaving original but I would like one 'shiny' bike!
Mario Vaz will probably be my preferred choice and hopefully I will have time in May get the work complete for the summer.

Hi Stuart; a few that are shiny is nice to have; fun restoring them as well.

Hi Stuart, I had a red Sport back in '76, then recently ebayed a replacement frame from the UK. I striped at sprayed it which you can see in the link, I hope. Photos are taken before the 2K clearcoat. Now with it, it really shines. So anyway my first reaction was, oh dear that's not a Viscount with the usual powder coat low gloss finish. As I already have a wall-hanger Koga '78 in glossy met orange (I did it with the same 2K clearcoat), I kind of missed the originality. Not that this frame unfortunately, which was a crappy orange had anything to start with. I think with your frame it would be a question of what you feel about the rust spots, and whether you want to shine up the components. My Aerospace Sport project has taken a long winter break, perhaps too much work went into making parts but it will be continued soon. .. viscountandlambert.boards.net/thread/1631/hunting-gathering-viscount-aerospaceSteve

Oh wow, my Viscount used to look like that. I got a respray by Argos in Bristol, same cobalt blue. But they did not offer chroming, so my forks no longer have chrome. I got this done in 1999 when the original bottom bracket gave out, Argos did a ream and sleeve so it now has bog standard BB. I did not get replacement transfers either, although I have since got stickers.
