I watch 'American Pickers' now and again, and on this episode Frank caught himself a bike. The question is this (off the top of your head, no researching) - how much do you think Frank paid for this Raleigh international ? (in US$'s) One of the decals of the downtube shows it as originating in a bike shop in Worksop, which isn't that far from the Raleigh factory in Nottingham. I have no idea. Those guys always buy cheaper than I ever could! I will guess they paid a hundred bucks for it. They will most likely sell it for maybe $750?
Cheers, and Happy New Year Jim

The seller and Frank seemed to think it was made around 1968 (mainly due to the side pull brakes) - but I'd have put in early mid 70's myself?
Happy New Year Jim - you are a way out on that guess...I will reveal the answer later

Frank is way cheaper than Mike. I'll weigh in with a guess that Frank low balled him at $125. Will there ever be a day when Mike goes all in for a Viscount because of the "Death Fork" legend? Seems like he always looks for a good story. I'll have to find out when he's coming through Long Island and have him stop by! We do have something in common. We both raced on the Kestrel 500SCI in the day.
Happy and healthy New Year to all!

Frank offered $300 for this, which was accepted. All the components were Campagnolo and the bike in very good condition. Just had a quick look on Sheldon brown and it appears to be '70/'71.
Seems like a fair price for such a good looking bike.
It would be great if they were to feature a Viscount, and as you say Michael they love a good story, so the 'death fork' would be a good hook.
Happy New Year to all!

My 1970 Raleigh catalog has an entry for the International. The color and equipment mostly match the one in question. It seems to have been a lower cost version of the Professional. I watched the episode on YouTube American Pickers Raleigh It will be interesting to know how well they do on the sale. I can eMail the catalog if you send a message.
Happy New Year! Jim
