If it's on on the Wirral then I doubt that I could get up there Friday night (56mph max in the old van ).
So, I will investigate trains on Saturdays
I can't do 16th or 23rd June or 14th and 21st July. (and I am thinking of booking on London Freeride if it's 28th)

I'm relatively flexible re the rally, but last weekend June/first weekend July would suit me perfect. August is not possible for me.

This thread has gone very quiet since Stella said she could join a DFR weekend! I’m sure it’s nothing personal, Stella, so here’s my offer:
I’m a bit pressed for time to sort out new and imaginative routes, but I would be very happy to facilitate re-running the arrangements we had for DFR4 in July 2016, i.e. camping accommodation near Warwick, and a 25-mile ride on Saturday around the historic sites, canals, tea shops and hostelries of Warwick and Kenilworth.
My current preference would be for the weekend of Sat 7th and Sun 8th July, but I could do Sat 30th June/ Sun 1st July if there were more people interested.
So, who fancies a weekend in Shakespeare Country? I still have accesss to our Scout groups’s stock of tents if people either don’t have, or prefer not to bring, their own.
P.s. Wirral Bikeathon on 10th June is still a possibility, but other family stuff might get in the way.

Hi Rob,I'm hopefully avail;able for either weekend. I'm not sure if I'll be able to do the whole ride owing to a complete lack of any fitness after my heart attack. I remember the pub was ok as well!!! Cheers, Pete.

Currently either weekend looks possible for me and I would expect to be there.

So everyone - 30th June/1st July or following weekend 7th/8th July?
Has anyone been in touch with Bustaste?
And does anyone hear from any other none regulars on the forum?

It sounds as though we have a consensus for the 7th and taking up Robt's kind offer to reprise DFR4?
I think we should bombard Steve (Busaste) with e-mails, social media &c. until he agrees to come. I'll make sure rml knows (IIRC her name on here - but you know who I mean).

I’ll book a couple of tent pitches on spec, and I could put up a couple of big tents that we can all use if needs be. If anyone who wasn’t at DFR4 wants to know what’s planned, see here. I have Busaste’s home address somewhere, so I’ll send him an invitation by Royal mail. Can we be extra clear to Lewis which day we’re planning to do the bike ride? Saturday 7th July.

I have booked two non-electric pitches at Mousley House Farm for the nights of Friday 6th and Saturday 7th July. I am awaiting confirmation from site owner Simon, but it appears that they may be the last two pitches available, apart from the 6-berth Eldiss Crusader Super Storm caravan. I am able to provide two big tents, with partitioned sleeping space for between four to six people (plus luggage & some bikes) in each, and we have the option to put up small 'pup' tents (as Rona and Stella had last time) on the booked pitches as well. I have mailed Simon to ask him to clarify terms for additional vehicles and people as day visitors, which wasn't a problem last time, with extra fees of about £3 to £5 per car/person. So, it may be communal living arrangements for those who would like to stay overnight. I am sure we can find overflow accommodation if we risk being overcrowded. Still plenty of space for a communal dinner and chats over the stove and a few beers.

Was a date resolved, please ? Weekend of 6th to 8th July, with the Ride (20-25 Miles) on Saturday 7th July from Mousley House Farm, Hatton, near Warwick. Start time for the ride is yet to be confirmed, but likely to be 1030ish unless people travelling on the day request a later start time. Motorway and train connections are close by. The route will be similar to the one we took for DFR4 in 2016, with refreshment stops in Kenilworth and Berkswell. See the old DFR4 thread for more details. It would be great if you could join us. It appears that accommodation at the campsite may be limited (we left our arrangements a bit late), but I’m sure we can sort something out to accommodate those who need/want to stay overnight and the day visitors.

Hi
Count me in! I will be there on Saturday 7th July 2018 at Mousley House Farm, Hatton. Can't wait!!!
Caveat - my father is desperately ill so if I get 'the call' on say Friday 6th July then I will not be able to make it. Fingers crossed that my father pulls through.
I've had no luck with DFR's these last few years so maybe - finally - this year it is going to happen for me. I could really do with a great day out with my Viscount buddies.
Cheers
Steve

Steve,
Best wishes to your father for a speedy recovery.
Will you need any accommodation on the evenings of the 6th or 7th? I’m looking forward to meeting you at last.
With just four weeks left, could those who are planning to come and might want to stay over before or after the Saturday ride let me know?
I have a few local friends who are looking forward to joining us. A tandem seat may be available for anyone who might not feel up to a solo 25-mile ride - would you be interested, Pete?
Rob.

Hi, Rob,I don't object to stoking a tandem. Rear frame size might rule that out,no bigger than a 22" I'm afraid. I don't know if I'm staying yet, some commitments aren't settled yet. Best wishes to Steve's father for a rapid recovery. Cheers, Pete.

I’m sorry I can’t join you guys despite being the originator of the thread 😳
Work generally gets in the way of things as I’m Shanghai based so only get limited times in the UK. So far missed The Carlton Flyer Weekend, The Lake District Velo Retro and now the DFR, not doing well really but glad to say the Lambert is basically finished, just the rear wheel to rebuild as its still sat with the spare 7 speed one on......once finalised will post pictures.
Hope you guys have a good DFR and once again apologies for my absence.

Steve,
My best wishes for your father's recovery too.
It would be good to bring your bearing tool, for any newcomers to see, if not to use.

I have been in touch with Peter Britton and hopefully he will be OK to meet up. He's had heart trouble. He lives near to Hatton, but I will be chauffeuring him. I'd appreciate a location for a lunch stop as that may be the best place to allow us to meet you and (hopefully) answer your questions. I'll see if Mick Ives is free. But bear in mind it's all things that happened 40 years ago and we both went onto more productive lives afterwards, so we may not remember everything! Peter recently found an old briefcase full of 'Viscount stuff' - will be good to riffle through that. The copy of the famous letter from SEGL, the tube manufacturers to Lambert saying "I've as much chance of finding uranium in my back garden as getting you to pay these invoices" is with me somewhere. A key figure, similar age to me (Peter is quite a bit older) is Brian Charlton who was assistant purchasing manager, another cyclist, from Stourbridge, but no-one seems to know where he went or is. Bustaste has a large amount of material from me but I've only met him once, at Coventry a few years ago with he, me, Mick and Arthur Wilkinson, the wheel builder.

TFE, If we follow the same route as in 2016, we’ll be arriving at The Brickmakers Arms in Balsall Common at about 1330 for lunch. (Possibly sooner if we don’t spend as long over elevenses at Time for tea in Kenilworth as we did in 2016). For anyone travelling by train who’d like to join us for lunch, the Brickmakers Arms is about a third of a mile from Berkswell railway station (on the West Coast Main Line, between Birmingham International (NEC) and Coventry). Kenilworth also now has its own (long awaited) railway station just over a mile from Kenilworth Castle and ‘Time for tea’, but services only stop hourly in each direction at present. Pete, I have made enquiries with reference to your inside leg measurement.

I'll be handing in a holiday request for the 6/7th and likely stay for one night (Friday to Saturday). Or maybe two nights as it seems to be the minimum. I'll need to call Simon, who still owes me money! Ha. :-)Can't wait to see you all again.
Steve: I'm really sorry to hear about your dad. Hope he'll be up and 'running' again, soon. xx

Stella,
I have booked what appear to be the last two pitches for Friday and Saturday night, so let me know what accommodation you require - either a compartment in a shared big tent, or a small 'pup tent' (as DFR4) for yourself, and for either or both of Friday and Saturday. I'll try to make sure that Simon is OK with whatever suits you best. I don't think that there is any need for you to make a separate booking, as most people appear to be coming for just the day.
Looking forward to seeing you again.
Rob.
