I looked back recently at the DFR5 post and noticed that the pictures I'd taken and posted have been blotted out by Photobucket because they now want some money for 3rd party hosting, although no mention of it has been made in the past. All my pictures, going back to my first post, have disappeared.
The pictures by other forum members who use Photobucket have also suffered a similar fate, both on this forum and on the Cycling UK (CTC) forum.
I'm tempted to swap my pictures over to Flickr and re-post them, but do Flickr charge for 3rd party hosting, or will the pictures of Flickr users soon suffer a similar fate to those of Photobucket?
A solution would be to create a full-blown 'Viscount Bicycles' website, but this would create costs which could be borne either by member fees or by advertising - but I must admit I find advertising annoying!
I don't think we've done badly at all to get everything free of charge so far.
Does anyone else have any thoughts on a way forward?

I am another victim of the sinister Photobucket plot. It is their web site so they can do with it as they please; if I don't like it, I am free to use another service, which I will. I have a Flicker account but cannot find the code for posting the picture; any help out there?
Cheers Jim

Flickr doesn't appear to have adopted the same policy (yet). Sooper8's tutorial on how to post pictures seems to have suffered the same fate at Photobucket's hands. To get the link from my desktop Flickr account, I select the sharing arrow in the bottom right hand corner then 'BB code' in the dialogue box, copy the BB code and then paste it into the message: Screen Shot 2017-08-05 at 09.42.59 by RMT@261, on Flickr The BB code doesn't seem to be available via the Flickr mobile device app on my iPad. Perhaps someone who has another app can remind us how to share from mobile devices.

Ahh no! I got an email from Photobucket a while back and I didn't think much of it.
I sometimes use that, sometimes Flickr. Flickr's embed code is somewhere bottom right of the individual photo, but it's not obvious & doesn't show in certain sections of the site ( I think you have to be in your photo stream?) I can't check it now as I'm on my phone.
That's a bit of a pain.... fair enough to do it from a point in time but to do it retrospectively is a bit mean in my opinion
Sure enough we can all move our pics over to another free provider but how many of us want to go through all of our posts to redirect a picture? That sounds like a kind of unpleasant torture
I looked into an independent web site a while back and it's not really a huge cost but I think the main issue would be migrating all of these threads over intact. I think it's too big a job. The traffic that this site generated a year or two back was making a few £'s a week in adverts revenue but that all went wrong ( long story and too long to repeat here , especially when I'm typing on my phone) In theory , it's possible.
The cost to upgrade our storage size on this site ( and then all pics would be hosted by Proboards within this site) isn't out if the question but it is an annual fee & therefore isn't an eternal solution.
I will investigate those proboard prices when I get to my laptop.
