Hello to you all, I suppose I could start by saying that I bought my first Viscount, a Grand Sport from a shop in Exeter when I was in the services, unfortunately for me and my knees, cycling and running didn't go together so I sold it several years later. I loved it to bits and never had any issues with it other than snotty local bike shop owners who felt they were inferior due to it's non threaded bottom bracket. Anyway I saw one going cheap on ebay a couple of years ago and it's now undergoing a refurb. For me the frame is the focal point so I'm not restoring it to 'as new' but putting a few modern components on board and making a cycle I'll personally enjoy. Up until today I didn't even know there was a forum so I've now unearthed a mountain of information I couldn't find before, brilliant ! I've already fitted a 107mm BB from Velo orange, filed out the excess frame tubes which was much easier than I'd thought and bought a lovely alloy fork instead of a death fork which I'd originally intended to put on. It'll be going off for a respray shortly although I've not yet worked out to whom, so any recommendations will be gratefully received. I've still got my original receipt from 1979 with a couple of brochures from the shop too, I hope to get that 'excitement' back once again.

Hi rotors and welcome to the forum from me also. I'm a fairly new member and have a Grand Sport bought new from about the same era which I started to ride regularly again with a local group last year
Looking forward to hearing about your project as it progresses, Sylvie.

Thank you both, yes I'll make sure I put up my progress I only came across the forum after seeing a random picture from your 2016 ? ride out, bonkers I thought, there's actually a group of folk who enjoy their Viscount bikes like me but have got together. The wonder of the internet. I'll endeavour to join in as soon as is possible. Jeff

Rotors, welcome to the forum. I am sure you will get back the excitement again! There's plenty of info already on the forum here, and if you need any help you'll find members to be very helpful.
If you get chance to scan or photograph the brochures then I'd love to see them posted...however, the forum reached it's limit a while back , so you would need to post them up to a photo sharing site and then link to them. Alternatively , just send them over to me (message me) and I would do all that for you.
As for doing a 'none original ' refurb, I totally agree that a bike had got to be what you want it to be, not what someone else might want.
Looking forward to hearing how you get on!
