Recently purchased a Viscount frame w/ Yamaha replacement fork. Sold the fork, sealed BB, seat post bolt on eBay. Purchased a NOS Tange Cro-Mo fork, headset, 6-speed freewheel & long reach dual pivot brakes. The rest came from my parts bin. As set up it has Shimano 600 Arabesque derailleurs & shifters, Specialized 47-39 175mm cranks, YST threadless BB, SR stem & Nitto Rando bars, Sr sealed hubs, Arraya rims & 27 x 1 1/8 clinchers, Pro Ace pedals, Alloy seat post & Lemond saddle. Still to be added Weinmann levers w/ black hoods, bar tape, cables & chain. Photo #1

Still considering whether it needs decals... not keen on paying $45 for a Viscount VP set. May just leave it in stealth mode

Nice build! It does look good as is. Personally, I would add the decals, but you may see it differently. Do what pleases you!

Recently purchased a Viscount frame w/ Yamaha replacement fork. Finished the build today. Calling it my "Stealth Viscount". For now I'm looking for some simple stripe decals to set off the black panel on the seat tube. I wish there had been a Viking badged AP frame. Those decals would be perfect! Stealth Viscount

Nice build Tom. I wish I had your patience to get everything just right! Did you get a first ride before the snow?
Cheers, Michael

It snowed today, so the test ride is postponed. My only disappointment is that the 700c shimano 600 wheels will not fit the front fork, even with Tektro long reach 73mm calipers. So I'm going with the 27" rims and a set of Vittoria 27 x 1 1/8 tires. the 27 x 1 1/4 Arraya rims are probably not a good match w/ 27 x 1 Panaracers. Too bad there are so few options for 27" rims.

Got out for a quick 10 mile test ride today.... looks like the last decent day for a week or so and lots of yard work to do.
Bike felt light and lively... rolled and climbed well in spite of relatively heavy wheels. I think the cro-mo fork is a big improvement over the Death Fork.
I think I noticed the longer wheelbase, fork rake and more relaxed frame angles. The Nitto Rando bars will have to go. Feel way too narrow. Might go with a shorter stem as well.
I have a solution for the brake reach problem, so will be able to use my 700c rims.

Here's the latest version of the Stealth Viscount. Couldn't bring myself to spend $45 for new decals... as much as I paid for the frame! It may be heresy but I had a set of Viking decals, so I used them. Easy enough to remove if I change my mind. Now with Holdsworth "drillium" crank and 600 Arabesque GT RD. Went back to standard Sakae bars & shorter stem. SV
And if you're interested, the rest of the herd, not including a Shogun touring frame I'll be building up over the winter. VTChuck's

That looks great! I am with you on not spending as much on decals than the rest of the bike. That 'drillium' seems to fit the overall look too.
Just been admiring your Falcon San Remo on your Flickr album. I think I might have commented on it a year or so back ? How does that compare weight wise against the Franken -Viscount?

Those cranks are from PlanetX in the UK. 110 BCD, 175mm 48-34 T. Look like they might be the same maker as the Velo-Orange cranks. IRD? I think the Falcon is about 1/2 lb lighter. My previous Viscount w/ death fork was my heaviest bike by about a pound. Falcon is much stiffer. Cannondale is my lightest & stiffest bike now that my CF Lemond is gone.
