Just back from DFR3, and blimey did it warm up after the mid morning showers today.
I must say it was a great pleasure to spend time with some nice people and great bikes (could there be a better combo?) For the first time we improvised part of the route, and only got lost once.
Wonderful to see some new faces and catch up with , what are now, old friends. We really missed Bustate's data-bank of knowledge, and his company.
I can't wait to see the photo's. (You might have noticed I was very keen to take photo's and shoot video on the first outing, but I have taken almost none last year, and literally none this year. My phone is now considered very old and almost laughable by todays standards and it creaks to a holt if I take more than a couple of pictures.)
Did any of our international members manage to get out and take a photo or two?
Best wishes to all and...
Vive le Viscount!
The stats...
16 riders 26 miles 1 puncture 1 pub 27 pints (that was just Pete and Lewis!) they were official beer score-keepers and lost count after that! 12 campers 164 cups of tea 2 x mini 9 pint kegs

Well done for organising such a great event Jem. The actual ride had a positively scorching pace of 11.9mph, impressive considering the beer and chips consumed. Here's the stats: connect.garmin.com/activity/830820275I think we did actually go a few miles more but I forgot to turn the Garmin on when leaving the pub. Thanks to everyone for being great company, and it was great to see some new faces. I really hope Steve and Goldie are able to make it next year as this event seems to be going from strength to strength. As Jem hinted at, Pete and Lewis deserve and special commendation for services to the brewing industry.

Thank you, Stella, and congratulations to Jem on his EPIC organization and execution. Kudos to all for your kind assistance to the local brewing industries, and on keeping the shiny side up after lending such assistance. On this side of things, I put a few miles on my trusty Viscount, and later, with friends, hoisted a pint of two of Bass Ale in your honour. And just a note to those on tubulars - I've put about 300 miles on my Tufo S33's this year, no trouble at all. Not a lot of miles on anything I'd remotely call a "good road," and most on the notoriously poor pavement in and around Chicago. Beautiful wheels, spinning nicely on Viscount hubs. Viscount forever! Clearly some mystic communion going on there as Bass was one of the draught (draft) beers on offer at our pub - the Dog Inn (be careful how you say that).

Thanks every one for a fab weekend. The ride was great especially after the pub. Thanks Jem for doing this for us its great you are a topbloke and your wife is smashing as well. Just cant wait for next year. Stella great overhead shot , John had a scary moment just as you took the photo but he recovered well. We cannot have a DFR without the gold Lambert.. Scotts has some good shots as well i would think. PS I have your gloves Stella I thought they were mine. Ooops Thanks again all of you it was a blast, Lesley and myself had great fun. Ray

Last post before I pass out (into my bed!): as I said many times, I've never met a group of people that get on this well. There's always a lot of warmth (and I don't mean the constant tea supply of Jem's wife, or the hot chili and buns, bacon, and eggs, supplied by Jem himself, although it's definitely much appreciated); the friendships evolving are delightful, the helping each other with parts, advice, the hugs and whatnot; the welcoming new people into the group with open arms; the laughter, the caring about each other. It continues to amaze me. It seems that if you ride a Viscount , you are one of the good people ...
Thanks for putting up with my moaning about being tired. :-)
P.S.: Ray, I'm glad the gloves have surfaced. If you want to, wash them and keep them. Maybe Lesley can make use of them. They're fairly new. I'll get myself some new ones.

Sadly, the weather here was shite. Added to that the fact that I tried unsuccessfully to hack off part of my thumb with a hachet and haven't ridden for two weeks, and my ability to ride 'in sync' was greatly diminished.
Love the pics though. Especially the pub shots in the sunshine. That's the life!
So happy to have spied one Death Fork decal in the pics. That makes me feel like I was there in spirit!
Keep the pics and the stories coming.

Bendo, how you could have possibly spied that sticker, I don't know. But it was on my G.P.s death fork. And there will be more as Jem has his stickers and I've distributed some of my 'load'.
So sorry to hear about your thumb. Hope there's not serious damage to it? Get well soon, I'm sure you're missing riding. We thought about everyone who wasn't there.

Great wrap-up and photos...really gives the feel! Thanks guys! I was a day late due to other commitments but I managed to get out on all 7 Viscounts on Sunday, each getting a lap on my 5 mile loop. There in spirit Onward to DFR4. Bendo, take care of that finger! Just got over surgery on one of my fingers, and it's amazing how one little broken tip can cause such havoc doing simple things. Cheers, Michael

I've recovered from the drive home and the horrible headache now. A big thanks to Jem for organising again, and it was great to meet up with everyone. It was nice to be able to ride in beautiful gentle rolling countryside. app.strava.com/activities/344514110/

Great to see folks again and meet new friends. Thanks to Jem for making it happen. Delightful quote from Cycle Chilterns 'You're lost when you don't know where you are, you are exploring when you know where you aren't.' Which accounts for our visit to No Man's Heath on the way back, and also tells you a little about about my Sunday ride along NCN54 from Burton to Lichfield - I am very pleased to say I missed a sign in Alrewas, which gave me a wonderful loop over the canal and round the church. I also took in part of DFR2's route, between Shobnall and Tattenhill. I also had a bit of a headwind, which meant I arrived at the station with a tomato face and ten minutes to spare. Three of those minutes were required to lug the loaded Viscount up the steps, along platform 3 and down to platform 2. Some pictures attached if my technical skills are up to it.

Badge of honour?

After all the effort I put in trying to get ahead of the peleton, my fat fingers could not manage to unlock the camera phone in time to catch you whizzing by. Here are a few pics I did take. I am trying to load a couple of video's on flickr. Will update you all with the link. Hats off to you all for a great day out.

The more the merrier for me,I'm not on the run from anyone,at the moment! I had my usual techno problems as my Go Pro(clone) turned into a No Go Pro with a flat battery, even though it was fully charged when leaving home. That is truely a monster burger young Sprockit is tucking into. Cheers, Pete.

What a great weekend! Lovely to see everyone - and nice to see one or two new faces - pity though that Busaste and Goldie didn't make it. Special thanks to Sooper8 for searching for and finding the site, planning the route, putting tents up for late-comers, and making sure Stella found her way to the site in the dark, as well as cups of tea, egg butties, and all the rest. I didn't record any video footage this year 'cos Pete had the handlebar-mounted GoPro and Scott seemed to point his phone at anything that moved. The Riders Picture by Mrs Sooper8 I'm Sprockit, and I'm on the extreme left of the picture. Other riders can identify themselves if they wish. Robt's puncture. A couple of shots at the pub - the Dog Inn at Whittington. Cusqueno's gold Lambert parked with Sprockit's 5-speed Sport. Raymondo's Pro. Sooper8's Deore 18AX (left) with Rod's unknown model. Apres ride. See you all next year for DFR4!

Sprockit - those photo's really capture the day. Brilliant!
Ray -great to meet your wife, she is a real Viscount convert and I really admire her spirit at getting on a bike that she's new to and grinding out 55 tough miles at Eroica and then coming up for this little run.
Bendo - can I ask, were you doing anything interesting with the hatchet or just chopping logs? (the reason I ask is that I have been doing some spoon carving and mainly use a small axe for most of the work nowadays - so, just interested to see if we share yet another 'hobby'?)
Triitout- Out for a lap on each of your 7 Viscounts! That really is solidarity with your international brothers! We salute you.
I'm suffering DFR withdrawal already....

Jem Is that your T25 with the net curtain awning? Do you need a proper awning? I know a man that can help.

She's a bit shy of the sun with her pale skin. When you say awning, we have a big tent that attaches on the edge of the Fiamma rail but is a pretty big job to put up unless you are staying for a few days. But, if you mean 'awning' as in a thing that does a job like the net curtain, only better, then I would indeed be interested, cheers
