Well, I took a trip to a bike jumble this morning in Long Eaton. Just got in there, and who should greet me but Scottw (from this forum and the DFR's) and his son Marco! We had a good chat about Viscounts and what not. Had a wander around and fell very lucky with this item. A KP Crisps , Team Viscount cap circa '81 I'd guess. A bit the worse for wear but I couldn't resist it. Camera Roll-757 by Sooper 8, on Flickr Camera Roll-758 by Sooper 8, on Flickr Camera Roll-759 by Sooper 8, on Flickr

You've opened a can of worms there Pete After I bought it, I went to look for Scott to show it off...turns out his son might have spotted it minutes before, but neglected to tell his old dad. Maybe he caught site of the peak (with KP Crisps on) and didn't link it with Viscount as he is not an obsessive like the rest of us. But, Scott is pretty eagle eyed, so he would have found it if I hadn't.

Ok, just did a test ride in the cap. Only a 6 mile blast but some astounding results! 2.3mph faster than my average for that route. The finest egyptian cotton with screen print design and streamlined stripes gave a definite boost. The cap's peak has an advanced geometry as would be expected from Viscount, and the size was spot on for me.(it has yet to be tested in challenging wind conditions...the 35 yr old elastic might not be up to the job?, but I did clock a top speed of 33mph , so that bodes well for staying on my head in windy weather) The added X factor came from the 'sweat of champions' , as the cap has never been washed since 1982 and there's an off chance Tony Doyle wore it! They're not streamlined stripes, they were known as go faster stripes in the day! Due to never having been washed, the "Mojo" is still there. Cheers, Pete.
