It's not too far away from me , and while I don't want to pay £60 odd to ride my bike, I might nip up and have a wander around the festival site.

Well, I wasn't really planning to go to this, but really glad I took a look. It was much bigger than I expected and was like a festival of vintage stuff in general and bikes in particular. It was free to get in and there was plenty of decent, and reasonably priced food and drink. In fact there was quite an emphasis on good food and drink. There were loads of tents and an area of bike jumble stalls.Big names like Brooks were there and smaller traders. There was even a brass band on a stage, and a load of deck chairs set out. The weather was perfect for sitting around and chatting. There was also an outdoor cinema screen showing films each night at 9pm (see photo for listings) I can't comment much on the routes as I am not familiar with them. There was a 30, 50 and 100 mile ride. I didn't see many bikes out on the road and I am not sure how/when they set off. I arrived relatively late in the day. There was a great atmosphere and it was wonderful wandering around checking out the bikes and chatting to people. I would certainly recommend a visit tomorrow (Sunday) if you get time. I really think most people here would love it. The 'Pro and the Grand Sport were for sale. Here's a selection of photo's and then a bigger selection on a link to my Flickr album of the day

I want to know is, who nicked the Kirk Revolution out of my storage I only took that picture of the Kirk because I have read about them, but have never seen one in the flesh. I was interested in their design and manufacture and almost got a frame a while back - I backed out when I realised how hard it would be to get parts etc.

The organisers also run top flight Sheffield ITalian restaurant Nonna's www.nonnas.co.uk/ - worth a visit next time you're in that neck of the woods. And the La Squadra cycling team, with its extremely stylish club kit and perhsp unsurprising emphasis on drinking good coffee out of small cups. In fact, the organisers shold probably get some sort of Hero of Sheffield award for their servcie to cycling, Italian cuisine and the Steel City as a whole... I feel so stupid for not signing up for this. The ride itself went through coutnryside and up and down climbs which I have wanted to do since I first turned a pedal. Somehow I just didn't get round to putting in the application form

L'Eroica was the first item on The Cycle Show (Tues 15th July) ITV4.
If you missed it, you can probably watch it on 'catch up'.

We need to get our heads together on this , just in case they open up registration for teams without warning in the autumn & then we spend a few weeks discussing it & find that they are overbooked.
I'll start up a new thread when I get home & we can knock about some ideas etc.
Could be great fun!
