Did a 10 mile time trial on the Sport tonight, fingers crossed that I might have beat my old personal best of 29:18 that I set in 2001 :-). Waiting for the official results.

Getting anywhere close to anything I did physically in 2001 would be a great achievement for me. Great effort whatever Kev!

Cheers Jem, results are now up and got a 29:12. Quite chuffed really, comparing 36 years old with 49.

Congratulations. That really is something.
Can I ask - how do you compare weight wise with 2001? (if that's not too personal a question?)

Not much in it, possibly a few kilos lighter now.

Kev, you have my full admiration, I doubt I could do 10 miles in 30 minutes. Last time I checked 12 miles was in 50 minutes. Okay, with city traffic and light in between, but I feel somewhat unsporty just looking at your picture!
Well done, by the way! Isn't it just brilliant when we can outdo ourselves?
By the way: I'm relieved to 'meet' a person with the same 'heart disease'. When I was running (back in 2001) and I mean VERY SLOW running, my heart rate was at 190 per minute. Always. And throughout 45 minutes (6k). Yes, you're allowed to laugh. I feel so much more comfy on a bike doing higher speeds.

Awesome time Kev. Masters athlete's are not to be discounted! I bet you'll soon break that time too. At 60, I can tell you that the wheels don't come off for many more years. Keep racing

Thanks guys. That was two of my goals for this year = get under 30 minutes and beat my PB. We'll have to see if I can get under 29 minutes next. Although I don't put the time in restoring bikes, I like to do my bit by keeping Viscounts racing. PS Everyone loves the Viscount on the start line, old and young ( though especially old :-) ).

Well done! Love the local place names along the route of your TT (Goldfinch Bottom? - you've got to be kidding - sounds like somewhere out of Midsommer Murders). Sets me to wondering what I might manage. My daily commute is flat - mainly alongside the River - but five miles takes 20 minutes give or take. Of course the traffic lights and traffic spoil the ride ...

Well done Kev.Looks like you'll have to be slowed down for DFR2.Could load you down with emergency beer suppliers and essential tools, bottle openers etc! Cheers, Pete. PS,The best I ever did on a time trial was in 1980 in the NW. 1hr,13min for a 25,not great, but I was on a trike!!!!

That's good going Pete, same pace as my 10 but for a 25!
PS Trike would be ideal for DFR2, especially after the 3rd pub :-)

Don't forget the extra wheel and aero drag!Couldn't do it now though, I was only half the age I'm working up to! Cheers, Pete.

Well done Kev!
I have only ever done one time trial, and it was not a time trial but a reliability ride. 21 miles in 1hr and 47 minutes, giving an average speed of 11.8mph. I was 14 and riding a Dawes Kingpin. Flat route in East Lothian, quiet roads on a summer evening. The event was reported in the East Lothian Courier dated 22 July 1977, archive fans!
That's pretty good going actually, I usually tootle along at 11mph and if I really go for it I can average 12.5mph for an hour (on basis of last Monday's coffee ride done on my own, usually I meander round the 18km with some girlfriends and the time is 65 minutes and up.)
That 365 to the left comes from the 2011 Stevenage Emitremmus audax. Me and two of the girls rode the short (67km) route and completed it in 5 hours and 24 minutes, getting back 10 minutes ahead of the cut-off! My bike computer recorded a ride time of 3h and 49 minutes, so nearly 2 hours must have been spent eating cake!

I seem to have stopped bothering about that sort of thing. If I can manage to keep to 12 mph,or 3 pubs per hour,I'm more than happy! Cheers, Pete.

Never done a time trial. Should do that, but only on a good day, with enough sleep and enough food, and enough everything.

The sport did well again last night. Ditched the SPD pedals and used the straps I had on for DFR2 and managed to knock another 31 seconds off my 10 mile personal best. So now done it in 28:41 :-) Here's what a chart of someone about to have a heart attack looks like: connect.garmin.com/activity/533313747I reckon 189 bpm is only 1 under my max.

Very well done!Just think how much better you could have done if we'd managed the 2nd pub stop! Luckily my heart skips the occasional beat,so I've never bothered with a monitor, except when it was required by the medicos! Toe clips rule,at least you can still walk in the shoes that fit 'em. Cheers, Pete.

Hahaha. And I see you had your service car right behind you. :-)
Lovely pictures, though. I always look like noting can faze me; far from that serious look you always have.

Generally it's better to have your approach. As this is a short time trial though, I'm supposed to be a fraction away from the point of exhaustion. I'm keeping my heart rate at 180 ( 190 is my max and can only be maintained for a few seconds ), hence serious look.
I'll try a smile and a wave next time. Maybe a wink.

LOL you guys crack me up. Well, I'm red-faced all the time (when going a bit faster) and people think I caught the sun. I'd rather have that serious look, instead I seem to smile as people always smile at me. Strange, that.

When you're locked in you don't see anything or anyone. My poor daughter was shouting and waving to me during my 100th triathlon and I never saw anything. That's what I still love about racing....riding the edge of the razor and not going over the edge!

I'm not made for racing, I think. I'm not made for anything where I have to push myself until the point of pain. Okay I can do one or two steep hills, just for the sake of it, but I'll give up if it's too much. I never push myself too hard at boxing either. If the 20th squad hurts, I'll stop. I'll be in pain for three to four days after that heavy workout anyway. lol

Total respect Kev! Just imagine how much you'd have shaved off without that cow dung under your saddle though...
