Ooooh wonderful: a bike that smells like a cricket bat. My two favourite sports in one! I have never smelled a cricket bat; but I bet it smells a lot like a baseball bat. I have an old Peugeot U08 that I may try treating with boiled linseed oil.
Cheers Jim

Looks a good candidate, Jim. You hardly need any as it goes a long way, it was a cold day when I applied it and there is the odd spot it probably went on too thick, soon wipes off though.
This guy uses it on some vintage bikes

The saddle has come up decent with a good scrub and some leather treatment. I’m not far away with this now, just needs a chain and tuning up.

The project is finished. Always feel guilty about taking drop bars off bikes but if I use this it will be more of a town/cruiser type of bike. So I went the same way as Jim with swept back bars and used some old Weinmann levers. I already had those and the leather grips, so the only money I’ve spent on the bike is a new chain and some gear cables. All the components are in good shape and the freewheel seems good based on gear switching in the work stand. The tyres have zero wear but are bit faded. The two downsides are the missing dust caps on the pedals and the chips on the frame. I’m pleased how it’s turned out and look forward to getting out on it in a weeks time or so A few more pics here www.flickr.com/photos/37459551@N08/albums/72157715530713717
