Just got an email from Flickr saying they are limiting accounts to 1000 photos before it is a paid for service.
If you use Flickr to host pics on here then we might lose a few more photos on the forum...

Is it worth looking into the costs of us running and contributing to a Viscount bicycles website, where our pictures would be less prone to outside influences?
The same discussion is currently ongoing over on the Raleigh Twenty forum.

Is it worth looking into the costs of us running and contributing to a Viscount bicycles website, where our pictures would be less prone to outside influences? The same discussion is currently ongoing over on the Raleigh Twenty forum. Good point Sprockit, but I am not sure what all of that might entail so have put it to the back of my mind for fear of blowing my brain with the logistics of it. If we did try to create another area/space/site then my worry is that it loses all of the knowledge, tips and tech advice on here. And we did create this site so that all of the collected knowledge from various other sites (and in particular that super long thread on CTC forum that Bustatste started years back) would be in one place. On the other hand, if the pictures that are hosted elsewhere but posted on here all start to eventually disappear then it really impacts on this forums usefulness. There is an option on this forum to just buy more space and pictures can be hosted on here directly. Without looking I can't remember what amount we got for free but we managed for a year or two until we hit the limit. My only concern then is longer term one, because it is a yearly payment and while there might be appetite to chuck in £1 each to do that this year, would there be in say 5 years time, because then we would have more 'holes' on the forum where pictures were posted but only a place holder remains. I will certainty look at what the pricing is for this forum to have X amount of extra photo storage and put it to people. What conclusions are the Raleigh 20 group coming to?

Raleigh Twenty folk are often unable to log in, and also, when logged in, to post items on the forum.
It seems that the Captcha security system is not allowing access for some unknown reason, and investigation is ongoing.

I don't know if others here are using Photobucket, but a month or so ago I started getting messages about payment plans. I've had to sign over to a new account (at new links), although free at the base level it is reducing capacity and graphic interface. My old links still work, but are kind of frozen in time and not updateable. I'm not sure if photos will be deleted, perhaps from inactive users etc, which would be a real pity to many forums like this one.

I am a member of various forums (forum/fora???) and the Photobucket paid for move last year really affected the historic content- gaping holes in some threads. Some valuable information just gone. Yes, people could go through their old posts and replace the links to some other on-line photo host, but has the time and patience to do that?

Sadly these companies suck us in on free service then once we are using them start to charge. I have Flickr but only use it for this forum so I guess will not run out of space until they change it again to all paid only which I guess they will do......!
