It is rare for a cyclist to hope for rain. Our eastern states may be flooding, but this has been a very dry summer here in the mountains of California. It has been five months since our last significant rain, 0.42" (10.7 mm) on April 17. We have only had measurable rain on one day since then, an insignificant 0.03" (0.76 mm) on May 26. The soil is like powder and we do not have rain in our long range forecast. A long summer dry spell is normal here, but we usually have a few summer thunderstorms that provide some relief. It is little wonder that my bikes don't have fenders (mud guards).

Jim, We've experienced the driest summer here in UK for a very long time. When the rain finally did come we had some issues locally with the water just running off the rock hard fields into some homes and creating 'rivers' down the streets. The seasons have been out of line this year with fruit and blossom coming at odd times and sometimes twice in one year. It was an amazing season for damsons and some other soft fruit but the farmers were getting very worried about livestock food.

I'm sitting inside after a shortened ride after getting caught in a soaker. It's been a summer of tropical downpours and high humidity as predicted by the climate science community. Everything is a bit more extreme so buckle your seatbelt and get used to a bumpy ride!
Cheers, Michael

I'm lucky these days to earn my living through cycling activities - instructing and mechanical work - I commute to work by bike. Today was my first real drenching since the UK heatwave ended, and it felt pretty good to be riding a twelve mile commute in the rain!

We have only had a bit of mist since April and finally, some significant rain! This has been the longest dry spell since 1966. The air is clean; the wildfire smoke is gone; the air is sweet.
